Places to Go, People to See.

Sunday was really good.  The chapel re-furb is done, the place looks amazing,  It's even better with the Church (which is the people) in place.  Cosham Baptist have long-loaned us a guitarist & vocalist (cos we currently have no regular musician to lead worship since the organist died),  Sunday they also loaned us a ( Read more... )

Lass from near Perth. We met her at Harrow & Wealdstone (details here for the terminally anoraked!) when we were going home from seeing N & E & she had just realised that, Help, the train people gave me a ticket & details for a train on an ordinary Monday & this is a Bank Holiday Monday & that train ain't running & I know I have to get to Clapham Junction to get the train back to base - currently near (ok abt 10 miles from) Pullborough. Panic?

Anyway, seeing a friendly looking female approaching, moi, she asks how she gets to Clapham. So I tell her to stick with us cos we're going that way & will put her on the right platform at least, if not the right train. Heck, she looks about S's age (early 20s) but I'd sure hate to get stuck @ Harrow & Wealdstone without a clue as to how to get across London. I'm not keen on travelling across London on my own - & I know the route & the ropes!

So we said "Bye' to S when our train came (He was headed for Paddington & Cardiff) & took her across, via Willsden Junction (which is how come she'd been lorst. No through trains to Clapham Junction advertised for quite a while longer). We, being old hands at this, & H & S being mad Rail Buffs, weren't bothered. Even I wasn't bothered. I know you get on near the front of the train stopping at Willsden Jctn, then go up the steps & get on nearish the middle of a train stopping at Clapham. Simple really.

Anyway, we offloaded there, wandered across the GINORMOUS footbridge - looks like you could drive a tank across it (if only you could get it up the steps!) - found the right platform, checked the train time & destination with the timetable (now is today a Saturday or a Sunday) then at the Info point. Where a real Human Being told us that it was a modified Sunday today on that region (see in blog!) & yes, that was, indeed the train.

She said then she'd be fine, Thanks very much. So we checked on our train then hied ourselves to the Fair Trade stall on platforms 11/12 for some Fair Trade coffee & a couple of lamb & mint pasties then back to platform 9 to wait for the train to Haslemere, where we changed for the train to Havant, then the bus back to Fratton. & got in by 8.45pm. Which took a bit longer than the 3 hours door to door we'd done in the morning but at least we'd had a drink!!

She was due in at Pullborough around 8.30pm, by which time it was getting dark. Just hope she found a taxi, or phoned a friend to get her the last bit of the journey. Still, if these Aussies want to go backpacking around the 'Old Country' I assume they can cope with such things.

At least, as she said, we all sort of speak the same(ish) language!
