Easter Weekend

Places to Go, People to See.

Sunday was really good.  The chapel re-furb is done, the place looks amazing,  It's even better with the Church (which is the people) in place.  Cosham Baptist have long-loaned us a guitarist & vocalist (cos we currently have no regular musician to lead worship since the organist died),  Sunday they also loaned us a ( Read more... )

I don't know which is more hilarious, the "umbrella cord" or the water kept "in case he gets thirsty"!!

Yup, I thought that was particularly good too. Not sure I'd have wanted S there watching me give birth to D though, he'd have just turned 4 at the time.

I think that would be good for a boy. It would prime him with a deeper understanding of a womans body so that he can question later in life when society tries to tell him that it's for nothing more than sexual gratification and a way of gaining power.

Oh he knows that anyway. He's a sensible lad - on the whole!

That's good to hear :)
There seem to be less and less gentlemen as of late :)

Ladies are a whole lot harder to find too. I blame that on the Women's Lib movement.

They said women could do 'mans' jobs just as well, & then we went on to act like men (& not too much like the good sort either)!

& I do appreciate being able to vote - it's the only time this Government takes notice of what I think! I shall just keep praying - He listens, & has the All Power!

Do you think it was feminism, or the feminist backlash? I'm not sure term feminist backlash has made it over to Europe yet? Do you want me to explain?

Sweetheart, of course the feminist backlash has made it to Europe. That's why there are fewer gentlemen.

After all, if a man holds a door for a woman & gets a mouthful for it - he's going to think twice before holding a door again isn't he.

I know I say this all the time - but what's wrong with treating people (gender immaterial) as people?

Oh, that's not what I'm talking about. Somewhere along the line, the term "confident woman" became less about equality and more about practicing power based on sexuality. It's like women have forgotten what their grandmothers and mothers had sacrified in the name of true feminism. Yes, women can do any job as good as a man; but most of them choose to practice "soft skills" in office environments where a tight sweater and a "perky" attitude will make them better than all the other girls. I've read studies where women will tend to see other women as competition and not even consider men to be a threat in professional dynamics. It makes me sick when I think about how brainwashed we are becoming. My step Mom's like this, ya know she actually suggested that I wear a short skirt to job interviews? She's right, but my integrity is worth more to me. Besides, all this posturing amongst themselves really does nothing but keep women in low level positions. I hope I'm making sense here? It's 3 am and I'm trying to expose the disinformation that ( ... )

hrm..maybe I didn't present what I was trying to say well. I agree that everyone should be considered equal, and that belief is all I see feminism in it's true form as being. However, I have observed that those who would take advantage of our current "sexy is paramount" culture hide behind the banner of "feminism" as a way of justifying their behaviour.

Think that's not so much Feminist Backlash as in response to the general high level of sexual awareness in our cultures.

Good grief - no wonder there aren't many gentlemen, or ladies, out there. They've all got stuck as overgrown, sex-obsessed Adolescents! Bit like Shaggy in "Scooby-Doo", or Wayne & his mates in "Wayne's World" or something.

Mind you, it's a lot easier to do that than really Grow Up! Specially when there are so few real Grown Ups around on whom they/we can model ourselves.

Or maybe they're around but the media have an obsession with teenagers?

Much agreed. I myself hold to the ideals of a 12 year old, however, that seems to be more mature than the maxim archetype adults of the iGeneration these days are expected to emmulate. Sad. I think it's a mechanism of control really. If one does not have the tools available to discern their environment(instead opting to respond to useing status, emotional appeals, hyperbole, and other fallacies), they are much easier to manipulate.

Came across a thing in the paper today (Daily Express, I was eating out & wanted to read it anyhow. The salade niçoisse was actually very good) which reported a survey done which showed that having pretty women around affected men's ability to make decisions. & the higher their testosterone levels the more their decision making ability was impaired.

Looks like all those years men fought to keep women out of certain workplaces & they may have had real reasons rather than being mysogynists! Not that they'd have admitted to reasons like the tests found - that would mean admitting that they were human!

Ok, took a bit of searching, but I found it and read it. If you ask me, it's quite demeaning to men. The sample was composed of only those 18-28 and I have no idea how many of those were in the lower age range (those who get aroused while riding an idling bus). Generally, most men under 28 have not fully matured (started nurturing children, sowed their wild seeds and settled down, encountered a significant amount of fiscal responsibility etc. emotionally). Furthermore, as far as I can tell, there was no context to the study. As Dr Siegfried DeWitte himself stated "It's a tendency, but these people are not powerless to fight it." I'm not even going to get into the innapropriate use of slack corrolary evidence between finger size and testosterone (why not a blood test?!). All in all, the study seems to be quite sensational. And while one would assume that it proves that hiring only pretty women is the right choice, upon further consideration, it would show that men are nothing more than drooling apes and should not be trusted to serve ( ... )

Hey, it's the Daily Express, right? Not New Scientist, nor the most Quality of newspapers - although they do report news rather than making it up as some are rumoured to!

Otherwise w00t for the University of Oregon. I'd been watching a BBC2 prog abt how someone is converting their Devon farmhouse to be Greener the other night. He'd gotten around to 'chip fat to biodiesel' to run the Landie - by the 'cook it up overnight' method.

If this new thing works it'll be a Good Thing. One of the things I've said about (so called) Green stuff is that transporting it around uses fossil fuels. So if we can persuade industry to run on the used, filtred chip fat from the canteen well . . .

Mind you, fields of sunflowers are really cheering. Possibly less allergenic than fields of oilseed Rape too (which I noticed, Weds, was just starting into bloom).
