Outing*, Fitting and Exercise

It's been a while.  Let me see . . .

Thursday was its usual hectic self: - raiding the market, quick lunch, Frontline Debt counselling, back home, make tea, off to weigh in at Slimming World (up 1lb, oops) and finally home again, and breathe.

Friday J had rung earlier saying she fancied going to Titchfield Haven but didn't want to go alone.  Was I interested, did I have time Friday?  Yes.  And Yes.

So we headed off cross country to Titchfield and Titchfield Haven, which was once a port on the Solent, quite important in Mediaeval times.  Then the river silted up.  Now it's a little harbour with a largeish wetland area inland protected by the RSPB, who have 'Hides with Guides' at allotted times.

J doesn't walk, like even worse than I am, so she sat in the car and I pottered off along the Front to look into the harbour and across the reedbeds to see how many different birds I could spot.

List: Little Egrets, Lapwings, Turnstones, Herring Gulls, Black-headed Gulls, Oyster Catchers, Mute Swans, Mallards, Starlings, Crows, Brent Geese.  The last are winter migrants, thought to have come from Siberia.  We used to joke that they all came fitted with cameras to scope out the Royal Navy.  These days there's so little to the Navy that I doubt the Russians bother!

After a picnic lunch, in the car as the breeze was a bit fresh even in the sunshine, we went for a scenic drive, made more scenic by a diversion down a one-track lane (fortunately with passing places) back home again.  It was good to see the countryside and some of the autumn colours, specially down the one-track lane!

The even better news is that the X4 bus from Portsmouth goes to Titchfield Haven, though I expect it takes halfway to forever and an even more scenic route, but probably not down a single track lane.

Saturday was wet, but that was ok as I'd done the washing Friday.  We stayed in and pottered.  I rebuilt the denim skirt I wear most of the time.  Only to find that I'd overestimated my shrinkage and it was now a bit tight.  As I'll probably want to wear it again before I've shrunk to fit, I shall enlarge it again.  w00t for dressmaking skillz!

As it was chilly this weekend I dug out the sweatshirting long skirt and have been wearing that ever since.  I also put on a pair of woolly socks, so have been cosy round the legs and feet at least.  We even had the fire on the back room yesterday.

Saturday evening H wanted to watch Strictly, I didn't but did want to sit in the front room with the fire on.  So there we were, both headphoned up - H to the TV and me to the radio app on my mobile tuned to Classic fM.  Pardon?  Of course I was knitting, and positioning the (very long) headphone cable so I couldn't knit it into the mitts I was making!

Sunday was the Remembrance Day service at Church.  Quite a few of the men have served in the Royal Navy; one is still a Reserve, one has PTSD, they all have stories, some of which they told.  We even still have an ex-ATS - she showed me the photo of her in uniform, aged 19, she's 90 now!

Considering that those who fought in WWI are now all dead and many of us are only here because people returned from either WWI or WWII, or both, or didn't get blitzed, Remembrance can be a difficult thing.  I thought it was handled very well yesterday.

I've done my Pilates for this week.  It isn't at all 'high impact' or, most of the time, that difficult, but I always find myself walking back home very slowly.  Ah well, at least I can get back up off the floor relatively easily, even gracefully, now.  My knees!!!!!

Right, better go chase some dust and vacuum the floors.  Goodness knows they look like they need it.

Y'all have a good day now!

*You have to make allowances for my age, Dear Reader.  To me 'outing' means a trip or excursion and has nothing to do with revelations or sexuality.

remembrance day, weekend, exercise, remembrance, birds
