I'd just wrassled the spare room duvet into a plastic storage bag preparatory for sucking out all the air with the vacuum when H called up to me,
'We have a visitor.' Sub-text being 'Would you field 'em cos I really need to go buy my season ticket so I can get to work tomorrow.' I didn't really want to do any housework yesterday anyhow*.
'Hello' said the visitor, obviously male, voice very familiar but, not wearing my glasses (they not being needed for duvet wrassling) I couldn't see who he was. Came nearer, offered tea, ah!
It was M, a friend from a few years back, he used to teach the children keyboard playing - he's a qualified piano tutor, among other things. We knew his family, were guests at his wedding, made them a patchwork quilt as a wedding present. Hadn't seen him for quite a long time, since the children moved away (twelve/thirteen years ago?)
So we sipped our tea and caught up with each other, what our families were up to, etc, etc. His daughter is now in the final year of junior school and they are sorting out secondary schools (always fun, not!) I remember knitting bootees and mitts for her when she was born. Time flies!
Fortunately H got back from a particularly difficult queue (not long, just awkward would-be passengers asking silly questions) in time to see M before he had to shoot off to another lesson. M used to teach pupils at his home, he also did a lot of travelling to pupils' homes to teach them there. Which, I suppose, is how he came to be in Portsmouth with time to spare so thought to visit us.
After which I went and wrassled the pillows, bed linen and towels into plastic storage bags. Then got tea. Today I shall take the Dyson round and, ending upstairs, evacuate the bags and secrete the much smaller packages in the drawers in the base of the spare bed - until we get another staying guest.
Today it is sunny, so once I've taken the Dyson round, I think I shall go out and visit, maybe, the Staunton Estates or somewhere such. At this time of year one has to make the most of sunny days. The washing is already out and there are signs that I might, eventually, get on top of it this week!
Meanwhile the
US Congress has voted to put the independent Office of Congressional Ethics under the control of the House Ethics Committee. Dur!?! So much for 'Draining the Swamp'! The more I hear about what's going on in the States, the less hope I have for them!
Right, better go take the duster and the Dyson round and try to lower the dust levels in the house. Come to think of it, the milkman is coming today? Isn't he? Cos the 'empties' have been out since 6am. They're still there five and a half hours later!
Y'all have a good day now!
*Not sure I really want to do housework ever!
