The wind is blowing, thank goodness.  It blew all day Saturday and by late afternoon we could see the sky and had a couple of much appreciated (much needed?) hours of sunshine.  The sun tried again yesterday, but to little avail.  This morning when I got up the wind was still blowing, the sky clearish and the sun shining.  So I've pegged the washing out again.  It's warm for the time of year, was dry when I pegged out and windy.  Perhaps this week the washing stands a chance of drying.  Rain isn't forecast until much later on today, so here's hoping.

H's jumper progresses.  I sewed it up and knitted a kind of collar/neck edging Saturday afternoon.  Sunday it had a good relaxing bath, then got rolled up in a towel and squeezed to remove excess water - you NEVER rub, wring or twist pure wool knitwear, it felts.  Then I pegged another towel across the top of the clothes horse and lay the jumper out to dry flat.  It's a lot drier today.  Should be finished by tomorrow morning at the latest.  Then I can start preparing to steek, I shan't cut anything until I actually have the zip.  Things being this advanced I've ordered the yarn for Niece's cardigan, it should be arriving tomorrow or Wednesday.  Good thing I have a couple of pairs of socks to keep me going meanwhile.

Writing of socks - having told people interested in bespoke socks/garments I do not knit black/dark grey/navy/dark green yarns I stash dived and picked out a hank from The Knitting Goddess named 'Midnight Sky'.  This is a delicate confection in dark grey/light grey/medium grey/violet and black, quite a lot of black.  Ah well, it's a simple enough pattern, I don't have to look too closely at it and the black stitches show up well against the bamboo dpns.  All the same, I can't think what possessed me to order a skein in such colours!

Meanwhile you know the sort of awkward situation, Dear Reader?  Someone you know has had a major disaster in their life.  Maybe they were expecting a much longed-for child, only to have had a miscarriage.  Or perhaps a longterm spouse has died, or a parent, or (worse) a child.  Or they've been made redundant, or had a 'life changing accident' or something.  You feel for them, you want to let them know that you're there for them but you just don't know what to say or how to say it.  So you pick out a card*, send it, and then end up avoiding them.  Here are some Magic Words to Say when Everythings's Going Wrong - but not 'everything happens for a reason'.  Not sure whether they're actually 'magic' words, but they could well be of help to you, and your distraught friend.

Far less seriously - you know the phrase 'In space no-one can hear you scream'?  Well, Dear Reader, now even in space you can hear bagpipes being played!  I think that bagpipes are really outdoor instruments and no, I don't mean outdoors in the next county or country either.  Mind you, the local pipe and drum band were invited to play at the wedding reception of some friends of ours.  The band were loud (nach), the room had a lowish ceiling, but the worst bit was that the drum beats got 'blatted about' (technical term) and were far too loud for the space.  The pipes, as I remember, weren't all that bad.

Another time we were out walking in a local beauty spot and heard what sounded like the faint sound of bagpipes.  Turned out someone was having a lesson out in the local woods.  See 'bagpipes are really outdoor instruments' above.

And Finally - some thoughts on the benefits of coffee.

Time to peg out some more washing.  Y'all have a good day now!
