Good Morning, Dear Readers

Or "Good ____!"  Insert time of day as appropriate greeting.  We had a great time at West Dean Gardens at their Apple Festival.  Train ride, bus ride (plenty of knitting time).  Bus stops right outside the gardens - some places you can reach by public transport.  w00t!  Then a leisurely stroll around various stalls - O'Hagan's sausages (the wild boar & calvados highly recommended), the local primary PTA refreshment stall & home made preserves stall (highly recommended), the various "Here are a load of different varieties of apples, have a taste" stalls.   You wouldn't believe the number of different varieties of apples they had on show, & taste.  I recommend Tinsley Quince & Egremont Russet, oh, & Cox's Orange Pippins (though not so much this year as it was too hot).  Yes, Golden Delicious was there, & it's parent trees, but there were soooooo many soooo much nicer apples.  There were cider stalls, including one with really fizzy cider made by the methode champagnois!  REALLY fizzy!  Then you could chop up apples yourself to get fresh pressed apple juice, or hot & mulled (very nice) & . . .& . . .&  the Good Thing was that with the long cold winter & late wet spring there were almost no wasps.  I saw about five, & two of them were swimming in some spare mulled apple juice!

Then we went for a walk around the gardens, & up around the arboretum.  Beautiful, even for the second weekend in October.  It was very overcast, in fact at one poin I wondered whether the mist would roll down from the hills, but it didn't.   Eventually, around 4pm, the sun managed to break through, but it had been a pleasantly warm day, with enough breeze to make it pleasanter.  The dew never evaporated all day - glad I just wore sandals, no socks/tights.  Bare feet dry faster!

The bus back to Chichester was on time, and a double decker, with a front seat free!  And connected with the train back to Portsmouth where, on alighting we met a few Pompey fans & found we'd won, 2-0.  Back on winning form, we hammered the Hammers!   All in all, a very pleasant afternoon.  We're going back for the Chili Festival in August, & I'd like to visit when the apple trees are in blossom.

Yesterday was good too.  the Pastor spoke on worship from Psalm 100 - basically it's something we are all called to do, regardless of whether we believe in Almighty God or not, & it's all about Him!  There now, the Ancient/Modern debate is a sideshow.  Worship is to be offered to God as He directs, to please Him!

Today I've already gotten the washing done & pegged out.  w00t for automatic washing machines.  Il fait sombre maintenant, but the forecast is for sunny weather later on.  Tomorrow it is set to deteriorate.  Hardly surprising really.  Today is my Mum's birthday.   (Happy Birthday to Mum)  Next week it's mine.  Mum always reckons the weather takes a turn for the worse between the two days!  So I'm glad we had the day out Saturday!

Just a couple of links - one on Personal Security.  They don't have to touch you to flatten you!  Shreddit!

Aging populations could become a problem worldwide, it would seem.  There now, you raise standards of hygiene, improve medical care, cut infant mortality &, fifty years down the line, you find you have lots of older people.  At least China doesn't see them as a burden, unlike some.  While you're on the BBC News site I'd recommend the pictures of the Papua New Guinean orchids too.  Specially the 'twiddly glass' one!

As for Madonna, & other celebrities, adopting a child from a Third World country: - it might be nice for the one child they adopt.  It certainly gets the celebrities lots of Karma enhancing publicity.  Though really I think they would do more good to more people funding clinics, schools, sanitation projects, & pushing for peace, Fair Trade & other things.   After all how many clinics /schools/etc could be built & maintained for the price of raising one child in the UK or the USA?  Specially over the twenty or more years it generally takes to fully 'raise' a child.  Oh, I'm not knocking Madge.  Just pointing out that there are other ways of expressing commitment over a long period.  Just, not necessarily, so high profile!

Ordinary folks, like you & me, Dear Readers, could also try Sponsorship.   That way the child stays with their family, and the whole community benefits.

And Finally - I heard from 'my Assassin' this weekend.  Apparently my socks are in the post.  Knitting on Borrowed Time!  Gotta go do some cleaning.  Y'all have a good day now!
