I prefer not to C the O.C. yuk yuk!

Okay, I'm going to just put this out here in a non-friends only entry for maximum possible responses (who cares if my sister reads this)...

WHY. DO. PEOPLE. LIKE. THE. O.C.??????

Okay, for pretty much every trend that's come around, I've (if I haven't particularly liked it) at least been able to understand the attraction. For example, I was never a big Japanimation (NO, NOT anime!) fan, to say the least. But I definitely understand why so many people were/are, because it's very foreign/different, which is attractive in and of itself to lots of people, and it's also just a matter of whether or not it appeals to your eyes. So, though I STRONGLY dislike Japanimation, I understand its phenomenal popularity. Similarly...uh, there are other examples I could think of, but I'm tired, so I'll just get to the point: The O.C.'s popularity at this moment is NOT something I can understand. At all. Since the "reasons" provided for the O.C.'s popularity are things I can easily list/ talk about, that's what I'll do. Okay.
Reasons why people claim the O.C. is good/popular:
1) "The people are hot." Well, this IS a matter of opinion, but I would contest that most of the "actors" on the O.C. are actually a cut below most teen drama actors in terms of hotness. For example, Mischa Barton, while certainly not ugly (at least, not with all of the star treatment), is hardly as conventionally (and we are talking about the opinions of the masses here) beautiful as Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) or Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia), and you don't see their pulchritude (freshman year vocab, wooohooo!) pulling in droves of teens to the television during their respective air time. The same CERTAINLY goes for the blond kid (Benjamin Mackenzie?) and Adam Brody, neither of whom are really matches for any of the WB actors by a long shot. The only O.C.er who I see as having a magnetic beauty is Rachel Bilson, but people rarely cite her as the reason for watching the show, so that theory is pretty much shot. Basically, this cast simply doesn't seem to have the cumulative conventional beauty which would fuel a large following.
2) "It is witty" i.e. "The writing is good". Yes, while I've actually heard numerous O.C. fans admit that this logic is a bit flawed, I have all the same heard this used as a reason for the O.C.'s popularity. Gotta say, I doubt anyone who agrees with this logic's fluency in English. Alot. Because this is literally one of the lines I've heard on the O.C.:
[Seth( YES, I know their names since everyone talks about it so muddy bluch) and Summer(and the whole motley crue) are driving to Tijuana, and Summer is apparently a bad driver.]
Seth:"Hey, Summer, why aren't you the worst driver I've ever met? Oh wait, you are. Ha. Ha. Ha."

Yeah. Case in freaking point. To those who believe that the writing is witty nontheless, I give you Gilmore Girls, the writing of which is incontrovertibly wittier. Is it at the center of a huge popularity phenomenon? No. Moving right along.
3)"It's just soooooooooo addictive!" Yeah? Well, "addictiveness" is fueled by numerous factors, suhc as cute actors, witty dialogue, or a compelling plot line. Well, some people think that the O.C. has a compelling plot line, I suppose. Compelling, in the world of TV land, I think, means that you feel you MUST see a show's next episode after seeing it for the first time. To tell the truth, basically all T.V. shows instill such a sense of curiosity in their audiences. Now, considering the O.C.'s plot(i.e. "will Seth hook up with Marissa?", "will Joe hook up with Jane?", "what will happen at that next party in Tijuana?"), I am once again confused as to why the show could be popular based on this reason. I realize that that whole "hooking up" thing makes for an interesting show (hey, I watch the Real World), but that plot element is present in SO many other shows with so fewer cliches (ala Gilmore Girls) that I once again think this reason is invalid. Yeah.
4) FINALLY (and this is my favorite: "Well, 9 million people watch the O.C., so it's obviously amazing." This isn't an answer to my question of why people like the show, but I've heard it used millions (even more than 9) times as a "reason" for why the show is good.
Yes? Well, 50 million people voted for George "Gay People Suck" Bush in the last election. The actions of a large amount of people are NOT, and I repeat, ARE NOT indicative of any positive quality, be it great judgement, morality, or, in the case of the O.C., taste!!!!!! Actually, in the immortal words of Eddie Kay Thomas: "A person is smart. People are dumb." Werd.
Aannnnd, if you're a Bush supporter, I hope you'll accept David Duke's (formerleader of the Ku Klux Klan/white supremacist extreme/scary, scary man) former political popularity (no, not among everyone, but a large amount of people in the south) as a more applicable support for this topic.

Ahhh, I'm tired. But someone should answer my question. Yeah.
