The ins and outs of anger

So, today is Monday.  Mondays have so far this quarter presented me with one kick to the groin or another.  And today didn’t “disappoint.”

I actually got up with my early alarm (the one for my 8am schedule).  I felt pretty rested, but rather blah.  I didn’t get much done in the morning, but managed to get a bit of my belated homework done.  But, it grew time to go in to work for the afternoon.  So I saunter down to the Jeep, put in my key and turn, and …

EEEEeerrrr fwump click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click …

It wouldn’t start, I’m saying.  Just clicked really fast.  I spent time fucking with wires, making sure everything was hooked up right, and still it just clicked.  Finally it’s about 5 til my start time and I just gave up and walked to the train.  Which I missed by about a minute (was leaving as I entered the parking lot).  Which meant I had to wait another 20 minutes for the next one.  I was late to work.  I did call to let them know.  Still, late, had to deal with broke ticket machines with my laundry quarters, and shit.

My main deduction is that the most likely fault is a weak battery.  Can’t turn it over.  That I can charge overnight.  The next option is a faulty starter.  That I can replace, but it’d be a pain in the as to do.  After that the only other things that could be wrong would be the wiring.  I thought the spark coil or distributor cap might be bad, but figured that was less likely since it seems the starter isn’t even trying.

So, I come home.  I figure I’d try again.  Because lead acid batteries can actually build up a better instantaneous charge if let to sit.  And, well, it fought.  And fought.  And finally came one.  With the bold Check Engine light.  I figured I could test it out, see if the alternator is charging well enough.  So I went and bought fast food for dinner and came home.  Jeep now starts without issue and the light isn’t on anymore.  So, yeah.  Somehow my battery drained out on me.  I’m worried about future issues, but for now am happy it works again.
