Sunday Adventures, Camera in Hand

Sunday started oddly, snowing and whatnot. But I had a brunch to get to with Mir, my official Msft mentor, so weather would have to bend to my will. She’s also my Buenos Aires travel advisor and fellow Jew-in-arms, so she’s a fun person for what ended up being a wacky Sunday. We tried to go to Oddfellows for brunch, but they were sold out of everything so we made our way to Cafe Presse.

My first impression of it perseveres: casual European (soccer on TV, foreign magazines for sale) atmosphere, narrow French indulgent menu, cute-couple-one-child Capitol Hill scene. You know the type; recently married (or promised) or whatever, with spawn named Greta Rainbow (this is a real name of a child I met on Saturday in an entirely different context).

Anyway, I recommend it for a simple omelette brunch or a steak and fries dinner, (but not much else). Luxurious brunch later (chestnut butter + cream of cauliflower soup, anyone?) we walked past the ridiculous sports car dealership, dreamt of dueling Lamborghini, and went shopping in Retrofit Home. I can’t help but buy something from this store, Sunday being no exception. I’ll post the picture of the piece of art I bought, I can’t remember the name of the artist (i know! i’m terrible) but his symbol is all over Seattle.

Post-shopping, I wandered around Pike Pine corridor, falling into an in-store show in the Wall of Sound, the classic wacky neighborhood eclectic music store. Very High Fidelity.

This was the placard outside:      These are some of the CDs:                 And this was the band!

Here’s a clip I took. The band literally sounds like a waterfall of strings overwhelmed by a slide guitar (not pictured), an accordian, and a French horn. This clip shows none of that, but I thought it was cool. The stand up bass guy played a ukelele, recorded himself, looped it, and played his ukelele like a drum over it. This is after some of the looping, and right as he starts drumming.

One block down, I found myself in Bauhaus (to no one’s surprise). Drank PG Tips, made a new friend, and scoured the Stranger for concerts in the area.

The sign outside:                Art I did not buy on the inside:

Ended the day with dinner at Bengal Tiger (cheap Indian food, we’ve all had it before) and Molly Moon’s for ice cream.

Delicious Menu options:                           Homemade waffles:             Josh and Kenn are hesitant, but are later won over:

and so i ended my blissfully indulgent Sunday. hope yours was fun as well.
