D-day

Valentine's day is upon us once again, but I've got bigger fish to fry. Rather than talk about how horrible (or wonderful) it is to be single on this loathsome day, I think I'll simply continue recounting the events of this last weekend. I think that in an effort not to confuse those reading, I will rearrange my previous "reminders" into chronological order if I can remember exactly where they go.*

4) Being tracked down. I spoke with Sophie last week and was told that she would not be making it to this Pirate weekend. I just figured I'd have to see her another time, on another trip. No big deal. But as I was en route to Alfred from Binghamton she called me and we arranged to meet somewhere in the middle. It was good to see her, but things are still just a little bit awkward. I don't know if that'll ever go away or not. Regardless, it's good to be able to talk to her again.

5) Tracking down. When I left for Alfred I had "tentative plans" for when and where I intended to meet up with people. This basically boiled down to "If I don't see you before the Pirate show, I'll see you AT the Pirate show." This worked surprisingly well. I was left with a few hours to kill in Alfred itself after I got to town around 6:30. I ran a couple of errands I needed to run and ended up getting to Holmes in time to see the video preview. I'd have called people to see if they wanted to go to Alex's and get some wings, but apparently Alfred has some very particular cell phone reception.

8) No, that's not tequila. Eventually the Pirate show happened. Afterward there followed the requisite imbibement. A large contingent of alums made their way down to Alex's and proceeded to colonize a couple of tables. After an hour or so of drinking at Alex's and eating the tastiest pizza in the world I decided to check out the cast party. It might not have lived up to Brent's standards but it was a good cast party. Pretty much everyone there was a Pirate and that makes socializing much easier. Obviously there was alcohol at said pirate party. The most memorable moment for me was when I was trying to get people to do shots of tequila. For whatever reason most people don't seem to like tequila. I think this might have something to do with the fact that most people think that Cuervo Gold is good tequila. IT IS NOT. When asked if they'd like to do a tequila shot, most people recoil in horror and begin telling a story that generally involves them having fun and doing things they wouldn't normally do and waking up without a hangover. I don't understand the aversion. I think they're just afraid of having a good time. Regardless, there were several rounds of tequila shots. At one point some of the newer Pirates came over to the credenza to see what was being quaffed. Kerry proceeded to hand one of them a shot and tell him that we were drinking something tasty like grasshoppers. When he maid reference to the fact that it sure looked and smelled a lot like tequila, she simply responded with "No! That's not tequila. Now drink it."

12) Guy On The Couch (That's ME!) Lodging plans for the weekend were uncharacteristically vague. There was some mention of staying on Pinto's couch, on the couch at the ENS house, and in the alley behind The Jet. I am forever indebted to Ender for graciously offering up his couch. He actually offered his bed, since he doesn't generally use it, but I opted for the couch instead. Now what you have to remember is that Ender does not live alone. He lives in an apartment with 5 other guys. I know 1 of them. Over the course of the weekend, my official title around Bacchus became "Guy On The Couch." Definitely not the worst nickname I've ever had.

That's all I can post for now. I have to get cleaned up and go to work. I'll try to finish the rest of them this afternoon.

*Disclaimer: All incidents are retold as they are remembered. Anything happening after about 7:00 Friday night and after about 6:30 on Saturday may not be 100% accurate. I was drinking (heavily) and things are a bit fuzzy.
