Merlin Season 3

I finally finished Merlin season 3 :D It was amazing... but before I say more I'll put everything under cut for spoilers and possible incoherent squeeage.

Yay moments:

Merlin had an awesome ending. Loved the Morgana harpy scream at the end. The pain just seeped through and you know next season she will be bringing the ass kicking (I'm going to miss Morgause though if she is truly dead. I loved the sister relationship the two had. Morgause was also the only one Morgana truly loved.)

The fact that Lancelot is back fills me with such joy <3 I can't wait for his new position as a knight to start the real unfolding of the heartbreaking Gwen/Lancelot star-crossed lovers myth. If they do it right, their romance and the dynamic between A/G/L could be epic. But if Lancelot only shows up for one episode next season - rage like a thousand burning suns.

One of my most loved introductions in Merlin was Gwaine. You are one gorgeous sexy funny knight. Please be in more episodes. Your interactions with Merlin & Arthur are priceless.

Things that weren't yay or :O moments:

I wasn't surprised at all at the reveal that Morgana was Uther's legit child. I've read too many myths for it to have caught me off guard, but it added depth to the storyline which is always good.

Freya being the Lady of the Lake. It's not a bad thing per say, as I have nothing against Freya, but it doesn't match up with myth or names in myths... which is weird to harp on since it is Merlin, and it’s not the most factually accurate show ever... but still I can't help but feel slighted. At least call her Viviane or something. And her being cursed into a werepanther makes me go O.o

Morgana's constant glares/smirks at the camera. I mean, we know you're evil and plotting to kill Uther/Arthur. We get it writers/directors. She's evil. (But that doesn't mean part of me wasn't cheering for her and Morgause to win. They were just such beautiful schemers that I couldn't help half rooting for them, even though I knew they were doomed.)

Uther bad king but good villian:

By the last episode, I almost felt pity for Uther, however the king really fucked-up his whole relationship with Morgana and his killing of innocent magic-wielders didn't make me feel bad for him (I still believe the true evil in the show is in fact Uther with his hate and ignorance. Morgana never would have become so evil and bitter if he had shown more acceptance of her, and told her the truth about her parentage. She gave him so many ways to tell her... in The Crystal Cave she basically pleaded for Uther to tell her that he was her father, so she could feel loved and feel like a true part of the Pendragon household. Boo Uther. You messed up your daughter real bad.)

Conclusion:

Overall I enjoyed season 3 of Merlin. It had a good balance of silly and serious storylines. It's always refreshing to watch a show that doesn't take itself too seriously. All I can hope for is that next season Mordred gets brought back into the mix, as I think Morgana taking him under her wing would be an amazing journey to see. And Arthur's hopefull rise to the throne (and possible kinghood), will be interesting to watch. Uther really needs to GTFO. (Yet, I would be sad to see Anthony Head go. He is a great actor. Maybe he'll just go insane and the camera will pan to Uther once in a while as he rocks in a corner. Or he could become a King Bumi and that would be serious win.)

I'll take season 4 now, thanks :D
