Simpler Times.

Remember those idyllic days of February? The world seemed a much simpler, rounder place in which to live. My daily foibles were accompanied by a bouncy Vaudevillian trio who would suddenly jump out from around the corner and sing a hilarious, yet appropriate ditty; the air smelt of daisies in a meadow and we all skipped about unabashedly like ( Read more... )

Hehe, Soopar machax, especially the mental image of you doing a jig with your Vaudevillian trio - in you knicker-bocker and tights, in my version. Muahahahahahaha.

This the first time I'm using it, and I've only just noticed - how on earth does LJ's spell-checker not have the word 'blog' in it?
One of lifes sweet ironies, eh?!

The only Kamal Hassan movie that I can remember (me being Kannadiga and all) is Pushpaka Vimana. Yes, yes I know its a silent movie - but heck, its chuddie-wettingly-funny, to paraphrase the incomparable Jon Stewart, and poignant too, at the end. Btw, did u know that chuddie is part of the Oxford (or more like Oxphord) Dictionary?

But, coming back to my point - theres a scene in that movie. If there ever was evidence that childhood experiences scar you for life, this has to be it. I remember the scene so damned vividly. KH has this rich dude (RD) tied up in his tiny loft-like apt (must be in Shivajinagar that), and hes feeding him (RD) to keep him alive while he (KH) goes galivanting about on RD's money. Of course, theres the small matter of the "output" from RD. So, naturally, the answer has to be to put the good-stuff in a nice little box, and spray it with deodarant, or whatever the hell socialist India produced back in the day, that was noisome enough to cover the methane-laden fragrances being emitted.

Now, and this is a little inexplicable, KH leaves the box in a bus stop. And, yes, there is a poor doofus (PD) there eating an ice cream cone, who sees the box, tries to call KH back to give it to him, KH obviously sneaks away and PD takes the box home. The next day, the same situation, the only thing is PD is wolfing down a banana, sees the box, and immediately pukes on the spot. I have never, ever, ever been able to touch a banana without thinking about that scence, since.

Damn you, KH. But thanks for the chuddie-wettingly-funny times...

Pushpak is such an amazing movie that I'm afraid it might be copied from an European movie or something. Actually, it's likely.

I searched around on this, because your comment made me all sad. If it's flicked, it's from some really obscure movie, because I couldn't find anything. I suppose the concept could be borrowed from Mel Brooks' Silent Movie, but that's stretching it a bit.

Coincidence. I was wondering about this movie again lately. It has a 9.6 rating on IMDB. Learnt this from Wikipedia. Unfortunately, there is not nearly enough votes to qualify for the IMDB 250.

I just searched for the writer's name and other movies. I've watched only two of his movies. MMKR and Pushpak. MMKR was entertaining, but that's it. Doesn't require the kind of talent it takes to concieve of Pushpak. Maybe the other movies made by this guy are good too.

Because actually that was the problem I had with the idea that Pushpak is original. What I was thinking was "Where's the writer/director? What are they doing now if they were talented enough to create Pushpak?"

I haven't watched Silent Movie yet. Have the CD. Must watch it one of these days.

Do they speak in Silent Movie (without audio)? Because in Pushpak, it is silent only because no one chooses to speak.
