[Your eyelids feel heavy despite having gone to bed early yesterday...]Your eyelids feel heavy despite having gone to bed early yesterday. It feels as if you didn’t get a single wink of sleep, eyes shut, but not really getting any shut eye. You had spent most of the night tossing and turning in bed before waking up to the shrill sound of your alarm clock and feeling absolutely terrible. Yixing will be departing for Seoul in a couple hours. You can’t seem to put how you feel to words. Weary? Unhappy? Worried? No, you’re thrilled. Today is a good day. Today is his big day. Taking in a deep breath, you step out of your bed and repeat those words again. Today is a good day. Today is his big day. Yixing has his whole future ahead of him. Let him go. Today is a good day. Today is his big day.
You reach the washroom without realizing it and proceed to get ready. You only have five hours left with him once he gets here. You need to make the best of this day. You knew this day would come. Yixing is talented, it was only a matter of time before somebody who could help Yixing develop his talents take notice of him. You were absolutely ecstatic when he first told you the news about his acceptance into SM entertainment. He’s going to be a trainee. You were extremely proud of Yixing, your boyfriend of three years, he's been dreaming of this day for as long as you’ve known him. The two of you went from being mere neighbors to best friends, and now, lovers. You were by his side whenever he entered a competition and you supported him every time he had a performance, cheering him on and screaming his name at the top of your lungs in the audience. You knew how much those performances meant to Yixing, and you know how much this opportunity means to him. No matter what happens, you would never waver and your response will always remain the same. “You’re talented Yixing, don’t let your talent go to waste. I know you can do it.” The look of relief on Yixing’s face as those words left your lips will never be forgotten. You gave, and will continue to give him a hundred percent of your support.
Yixing had been afraid of leaving Changsha and moving to Seoul on his own at first, but you were able to convince him to take the opportunity in front of him right away. Why waste time deciding on something you’ll end up accepting anyway? You wanted him to start training and live his dream life as soon as possible. You were confident that you would be able to watch him go and stay strong, but as the days you had with him began to dwindle, so did your confidence. Your laughter turned into small smiles, and the shining eyes Yixing loved so much were starting to grow dull as well. Yixing had noticed, but never brought it up, he was having a hard time figuring out how he felt. Even now, Yixing is unsure of how to express the onslaught of emotions that flood his thoughts the moment he has time to himself. Is he excited? Yes. Is he happy? Yes. But he’s also nervous, worried and absolutely terrified of leaving you behind. He’s having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that he won’t be able to see you every single day anymore.
With much difficulty, you finish washing your face and return to your room to get dressed. You're fixing your hair in front of the mirror when your phone begins to ring.
“Hello?"
“Hey, I finished packing last night so I’m free all day. Do you want to go out for breakfast? I’ll come get you now.” Yixing’s voice sounds so empty today. Using the last of your energy you put in your best effort to sound happy before replying to Yixing. He has enough to worry about already.
“Sounds great, I’m all dressed already so text me when you get here okay?”
“Alright, I’ll see you in a few.” With that Yixing hangs up. The line goes dead and you stare at your phone, a happy picture of you and Yixing staring back at you. Tears are already forming behind your eyes, but you forced them to stay there, refusing to let them fall. Today is a good day. Today is his big day. This is for Yixing. You repeated those words to yourself again, calming down and stopping yourself from breaking down.
Yixing arrives at the front of your house within fifteen minutes, setting the break on his bike down before ringing your doorbell. Your father gets to the door before you do.
“Oh hi Yixing, are you here to pick up Peiyun?”
“Ah yes sir, I hope you don’t mind.”
“No, not at all. Have fun with Peiyun and good luck in Seoul. I see a bright future ahead of you son.”
“Thank you, I promise to come back successful. I won’t let Peiyun down.”
“Good, that’s just what I wanted to hear.”
Upon hearing Yixing’s voice, you start running down the stairs and notice your father talking to him with a look of pride in his eyes; both of your parents are very fond of him. Yixing was like a son to the two of them even before you started dating and this thought always made you happy. He isn’t just some boyfriend, he’s family. You make your way to the front door and put your shoes on. You hug your dad quickly before reaching your hand out for Yixing’s.
“Have fun you two.”
“We will.” The moment your front door slammed shut Yixing pecked your cheeks.
“You look beautiful like always.” You blush at Yixing’s compliment, no matter how many times he calls you beautiful, you’ll never be able to get used to it. The butterflies in your stomach seem to have this tendency to perform summersaults whenever you were with Yixing. He just had this way of making your heart race and thoughts jumbled. It wasn’t fair that he could have this effect on you without even trying. Clearing your throat, you shake off your embarrassment and return Yixing’s kiss with kiss of your own against his cheek.
“Thank you, you don’t look too bad yourself.” Yixing pouts and you laugh at the expression on his face. He must have been expecting the usual, “you look amazing today” but you’re feeling playful all of a sudden. “Come on, you said you wanted to take me somewhere special today right?”
Nodding, Yixing keeps your hands in his leads you towards his bike. With a sigh, Yixing lets go reluctantly and gets on his bike quickly, making sure to slant the bike slightly so that you could get on as well. Yixing feels your arms wrap around his torso the moment you’re seated and smiles. The butterflies in stomach seem to enjoy tumbling just as much as yours, they never fail to go haywire when you’re near. Resting your cheeks on Yixing’s back, you close your eyes and listen to Yixing hum as he pedaled. You didn’t have to ask Yixing where he was taking you, you had a feeling that he’d bring you to the restaurant where he first asked you to become his girlfriend.
“Yixing.”
“Hmm?”
“I love you.” You’ve told him this many times before, but you had the sudden urge to tell him again.
“I love you too.” Your grip on Yixing tightens, you don’t want to let go.
Just as you had predicted, Yixing really did bring you to “Lee’s Kitchen”. The two of you love the breakfast specials here. After locking up his bike, Yixing reaches for your hands and takes you inside. The two of you order your favourite foods and spend the next hour at the restaurant talking about everything, yet nothing at the same time. The reality of Yixing going to Seoul leaving your mind momentarily. Once you finish the last of your food, Yixing gets up to pay the bill despite your protests.
“You really don’t have to.”
“But I want to.” Yixing smiles, his trademark dimple showing as he hands the cashier his money then tugging you out of the restaurant.
“Fine…” You're the one to pout this time, bottom lip protruding as Yixing chuckles in amusement.
“Gosh, you’re too cute for your own good.” Your cheeks flush a light pink at his comment and your tiny fists find their way to Yixing’s chest, smacking him lightly.
“Am not.”
“What’s wrong with being cute?” Yixing stops you from hitting him again and brushes the tip of his nose against yours. “I like cute.” You roll your eyes at his cheesy comment, but you can’t hide the effect his words have on you.
“Okay, so where to next?”
“It’s a surprise.” Yixing interlaces his fingers with yours and leads you in the opposite direction of his bike.
“Yixing, your bike.”
“I’ll come back for it later, we’re walking to get some ice cream first okay?” Your eyes brighten and you nod excitedly at Yixing’s suggestion. Chocolate flavoured ice cream is your favourite dessert in this world. Whenever something went wrong Yixing would always buy you chocolate ice cream to make you feel better.
The two of you are seated on a bench hand in hand while enjoying your frozen dessert. You’re feeling much better than how you felt this morning. Yixing always manages to brighten up your day. You stare up at the clouds and trace the patterns with your eyes. It’s nice to be sitting here and just enjoying yourself with Yixing. Sometimes, you forget to appreciate the little things in life. You're still looking up at the clouds when Yixing’s finger gently swipe across your lower lip, wiping off some ice cream.
“So messy.” You bring your attention away from the clouds and look down at Yixing. He’s smiling again. You adore his smile. The soft crinkling on the corner of his eyes, the upturning of his lips, and the deep dimple that appears on his right cheek never fails to make your heart flutter.
"Oops?" Yixing chuckles and shakes his head.
"Like I was saying, just too cute."
After the two of you finish your ice creams you make your way back to where Yixing’s bike is. Yixing got on quickly and motioned for you to get on as well. You and Yixing spent the rest of the day biking around town, stopping whenever he went by a place that was significant to the two of you. You guys spent your day swinging on the swings at the park, walking around your high school field, eating a variety of foods, and shopping around the street market before going back to Yixing’s house. He has to go soon.
The two of you are now sitting in the back of his dad’s car in silence, your body tenses up as the airport reaches your line of sight. Yixing must have seen it as well since the grip he has on your hand tightens, his thumbs brushing against your hand in a reassuring manner. You look over at him and notice that the sides of his eyes are wet. You reach up and caress his face, wiping his eyes while giving him the best smile you can make.
“Yixing, we’ll be together again before you know it. I’ll be waiting for you okay?” Yixing nods and hugs you, his mother’s tears beginning to fall after seeing her son through the rear view mirror.
“Yixing we’re here.” Yixing’s father announce their arrival and opens his door first. He goes to the back and grabs Yixing’s luggage, motioning for Yixing to stay with you and his mother.
“Thanks dad.”
The four of you walk into the airport and search for the gate to Yixing’s plane. His mother is sobbing now, eyes red and face blotchy. Yixing’s father has some tears in his eyes as well. You decide to give them some space and stand off to the side. You’re the only one left with dry eyes.
Once Yixing finished exchanging his goodbyes with his parents, they walk towards you and motion for you to go talk to him.
“Take your time with okay? We’ll be waiting outside.” Yixing’s parents are very understanding people, you had planned to say goodbye to Yixing quickly since his parents were going to drive you home, but they knew you wanted more time with him. The treat you like you’re their own daughter.
“Peiyun.” Yixing’s voice shakes as he speaks and that's all it takes for you to start crying. Ignoring the people around you, you run towards Yixing with your arms outstretched and hug him tight.
“Yixing, work hard, and don’t give up. Training will get tough from time to time but I believe in you.” Your face is buried in Yixing’s chest, voice muffled, but words clear to Yixing.
“I will, I promise I won’t disappoint you. I’ll call you whenever I can okay?” The onslaught of tears that begins to fall take you by surprise, you’re crying so hard that you have trouble talking and simply nod your head against his chest instead. You pull out of the hug as the tears continue to flow down your face, you don’t want to soak his shirt. Yixing is crying almost as hard as you are, staring into your eyes through his blurring vision and reaching up to caress your face. He leans down and presses his lips against yours. Your eyes close as you respond to his kiss.
“Peiyun…” Yixing takes in a deep breath. “P-please be strong and don’t miss me too much while I’m gone okay?” Yixing wipes his own tears with the back of his hand and suppresses a sob.
“It hurts me to see you like this.”
“I-I…” Biting your lips, you nod again, still crying much too hard to speak. The doors to Yixing’s gate opens and people start walking in. You can feel yourself start to panic as the time for Yixing to go approaches.
"I guess... this.. is goodbye." Yixing's voice is trembling, his face stained with tears as he takes a lingering look at the love of his life. Tears continue streaming down your face as you hold onto Yixing's hand, neither of you wanting to let go. A loud buzz can be heard as the announcer makes the last call for Yixing's flight, this is it. Today is a good day. Only your fingers tips are touching now as Yixing inches his way towards the gate, his watery eyes never leaving yours. Today is his big day. When your hands finally let go of the other, you feel your heart break in two. Please stay.
