I'm back from WorldCon, and it was wonderful, as it always is (or at least as it has been the previous 2 times I've gone)!!! And now I'm super bummed that it's over. But anyways, I'm going to do a very detailed, long recap of my experience mostly just for myself and so I can look back in the future and remember everything, so if you don't want to ( Read more... )

ugh, yeah, exactly! And I've also seen complaints about the idea of a female Doctor basically boiling down to the idea that a female Doctor would automatically be lesser or wouldn't be The Doctor because she would be female, pretty much solely based on stereotypical ideas of how women behave/act. So that's all just super frustrating. But yeah, while I really would like to see a female Doctor, I would be worried about how the show would handle it. It's hard to know since I don't think the Doctor's ever really expressed any feelings as to his gender identity (unless you assume he does have control over his regenerations and has chosen to regenerate into a male each time, which is entirely possible). But who's to say Timelords even care? I mean, while I definitely identify as a female and have no desire to change that, if I were a 900+ year old Timelord and knew I could regenerate back into being a female at some point, I might try being a male for a regeneration just to try something different. So who knows? But I definitely think that if the show ever did decide to have a female Doctor that it would be for just one regeneration, and then they would go back to having male Doctors all the time. They even talked a little about the idea during the panel that the Doctor would be female for just a couple episodes (like maybe they were in an alternate universe that swapped genders, or something like that), and they were worried that the show could use that to be like, "Well, we tried it, and it didn't work, so now we're going back to male Doctors exclusively!" Which I could definitely see happening a lot more easily.

I 100% agree with you about The Power of Three's ending!!! I was so frustrated after Amy and Rory's last episode because I feel like it would've been infinitely better if those last episodes had been swapped (obviously without Amy and Rory being zapped by an Angel at the end). I had so many issues with that finale, including the fact that it felt like River was just shoehorned in because it was their last episode and not for any real plot-related reasons. If they had swapped them, then they could still do the Angels in Manhattan thing and would be able to focus more on River rather than having to spend time on it being Amy and Rory's last episode. And then The Power of Three could happen and Amy and Rory could choose to stop traveling with the Doctor! ugh, I would've loved that so much more.
