Summary:
Rydia of Mist. It's what Cecil always introduces her as at fancy dinner parties; it's how Edge introduced her to his Gramps, accompanied with a wink and a nod. It's her formal title with Yang and Edward and King Giott and the other rulers of nations. This is Rydia, of Mist. She's a Caller.
She needs no further introduction: Mist and the Callers are almost legendary, much like Mysidia; but Mysidia is real, and holy, and awe-inspiring. She knows the stories about the summoners of old, and does not wonder when people look at her in that way: to them, she is a legend walking, a myth come to life. She doesn't need to be Queen or Lady because she is from Mist and somehow being a Caller is almost unreal. They all now know the story of how Golbez sought to eliminate the summoners: it gives her a hint of some unworldly power, murmurs and ripples under green and gold. Plus, she is probably the last Caller: it makes her story tragic, and sad. This is Rydia of Mist; and there are always sympathetic whispers.
But what is Mist? It's a town of ash. Mist is full of dream-like memories, led by a people who lived years too long with the cry of monsters in their blood, isolated almost incestuously from the mere humans who didn't carry the calls of dragons in their veins. And now it's ashes only, far from the glory-days of Summoners and temples: Mist and its people were the remnants of a greater age long before Cecil and Kain burned the village down.
She cannot bring herself to tell these people that the legends were just legends and were long-ago and are lost now: that Mist is all grass and ash in a mountain valley and its people are no longer proud and noble and no-one wears the robes anymore, not even her.
