“You’re so cold,” Edge says, and he’s trying too hard so it’s a joke and a truth all in one. Rydia hates this; she has trouble reading people as it is, and Edge is impossible as it is, and as it stands she’ll never figure him out.
She turns on her heel, heading away from the tree they’re under and back to Baron. She doesn’t want to be cold, but she also doesn’t want to kiss him.
“Hey, wait, come back,” Edge calls, hastily standing up.
“What do you want me to do, Edge?” Rydia whirls around, looking him in the eyes, wishing again she’d grown up differently. She hates that she always has to ask people what they mean.
He looks down at her, his face softening. “Now you’re fiery,” he says, remorseful. “I’m sorry.”
“I - I’m not cold,” she says, wrapping her arms around herself anyway in a direct contradiction. “I’m not.” She wants to be human, is all.
“I know,” Edge says, shaking his head. “You’re a fire-breathing dragon, sweets. It’s why you’re so irresistible.”
Rydia rolls her eyes in exaggerated annoyance. “So don’t call me cold,” she says pointedly.
“Then kiss me,” Edge replies, looking hopeful.
