so i visited the british consolate on elgin st today and boy was it an ordeal.

it started out that the guy who buzzed me in had to pat me down and go through my purse before he let me inside.  Well I hadn't thought of this while preparing for today so when he opened up my gigantic bag he found, not one, but TWO of those small single serving wine bottles (like the kind you get on airplanes), which i had in my purse from homecoming.  nice.  he took them out, waved them in my face and then shook his head sternly.  I then passed through a long hallway where i was met by another guard who made sure once again i had no concealed weapons, explosives or... cellphones.  Finally when i got into my appointment I had to stand in a small glassed in booth and speak to a woman over an intercom, passing my documents through a small hole in the wall.  The voice was horribly rude, saying things like, "how do you expect to pay for this endeavor?" and i would slip them my trust statements.  Because I was unable to present my dead english grandmother (her birth/ death certificates were not sufficient) I was only granted a student visa, which allows me to be in the country until Jan 31 2008.  I sat in this claustrophobic cube for about 30 min being nailed with numerous questions before finally being given my passport with fancy new visa inside.

such a relief!

i hate to admit it, but i'm getting kinda spooked about moving.  I had forgotten how safe you feel living at home with your parents.  I feel like i'm 17 and moving away from home for the first time.

ADVICE ADVICE!  for all you people who have been in England during the winter months, how cold does it get?  i'm trying to figure out what to pack.
