Sunburn 2005

Everything went surprisingly well considering, that I've never worked with a sound system this large before. My recent purchases from Malikai allowed us to properly entertain 250 members and workers of the Sports Car Club of America. The original plan was for my roommate and I to spin some house music, since a live band was going to play for about an hour or so. Things were looking pretty sad Thursday night when the people in charge of the sound system couldn't make it. So as problem number one unfolded we were hit with problem number two, one of the bands members couldn't make it either. The band is a really neat electronic/dub/dance act known as Dance Dance Paizuri that my roomate and I have been working with in an effort to make them sound more professional. My roommate and I have known the parents of a member in band for years, but were never really told about them until just recently. The band is composed of four members, someone on a bass guitar, another playing lead guitar, another person playing a microkorg synthesizer strapped around his neck in a very rock star fashion, and someone working some tables, drum machine, and a computer. They were all freaking out since one of the members skipped out on them and were confused about what to do. I suggested that they just play along with the house music we served up, and look at the dj as being the drummer. This was a huge hit... everything sounded wonderful. So we dropped some Kaskade, and a good helping of some jazzy house. These kids had to have been reading my mind... When I tossed in "It's You, It's Me" these kids, after about 30 seconds were playing the guitar sections of the track live. It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty amazing... I personally was surprised at the level of professionalism we threw together almost over night. The setup basically consisted of two JBL 3-way cabinets with a horn, a 15 inch primary driver, and 15 inch sub to round out the sound. This was all powered by a rack mount amp unit putting around 2500 watts of power to the ears. This was joined together by my new 12 channel mixer that hosted a few mic's, the band's equipment, and our dj setup. I owe a huge thanks to the guys at Afterlife for allowing me to use their backup cabinets and amp on such a short notice. What I've learned from this... The acceptance of house music by the older folks was sugar coasted very well with the live instruments playing along. I'm going to try and put something more organized together with this band since we had so much fun. My suggestions to add a saxophone, or a trumpet player were taken very well... :-) Here are some pictures I took while it was still light outside, mostly while we were setting up.

Testing the sound levels... :-)
