Somone on clamp_now said that Himawari's husband had actually been mentioned in the OVA, and since I hadn't seen it, I downloaded it last night and watched it. Then I transcribed her phone conversation with Douemki (because CLAMP can't be arsed to give her any actual screen time) for posterity or some shit.
[Doumeki's just come back from a job and is talking to Watanuki about it when the phone rings. Watanuki tells Doumeki to answer it.]
Doumeki: "Hello."
Himawari: "Doumeki-kun?"
Doumeki: "Oh, it's you, Kunogi."
Himawari: "You know that my surname's different now, right?"
Doumeki: "I still can't get used to it."
Himawari: "That's exactly like the Doumeki-kun that I know."
Himawari: "Good evening. Are you staying at Watanuki-kun's shop again tonight?"
Doumeki: "Quite possibly. Did you want to talk to him?"
Himawari: "I did, but this is good timing. I have something I want to talk to you about too."
Doumeki: "What is it?"
Himawari: "The day after tomorrow is Watanuki-kun's birthday, right? It's become our tradition to celebrate it with him at the shop."
Doumeki: "Right."
Himawari: "Can you take the day off from university?"
Doumeki: "I'm on spring break at the moment."
Himawari: "In that case, I'll call Kohane-chan and come up with a starting time for the party."
Doumeki: "Yeah. Is your husband okay with this?"
Himawari: "Yes. Even before we got married, I told him that I'd be away from home on the 1st of April, no matter what."
Himawari: "It'd be nice if he could come with me, but he can't enter the shop."
Doumeki: "I see."
Himawari: "How's Watanuki-kun?"
Doumeki: "The same as ever."
Himawari: "I see."
Himawari: "I'll think hard about it. He's given me a lot. Bit by bit, although it doesn't even dent the debt that I owe him . . ."
Himawari: "Every year, I'll go to the shop and continue to give him his present on the 1st of April."
Doumeki: "Yeah."
Himawari: "Well then. Please give my regards to Watanuki-kun. Goodnight."
Doumeki: "Yeah. Night."
[Doumeki hangs up the phone, then pulls out the egg and stares at it.]
Doumeki: "She's probably the only one who can give him what he wants most."
The only thing I can think of is that Watanuki, in some way, either got rid of Himawari's curse or lessened it to some extent in order for her to have a normal life. Or something. I'm still . . . really not happy about the way CLAMP did this at all, but at least now I know she actually does think about relationships in regards to herself.
