For
sadninjainsand because she's sick and I couldn't think of anything else to do. ♥
It was late. Probably around one or two in the morning when she wandered into the living room. The dim light from the lamp, just bright enough to hurt at first, made her squeeze her eyes shut. He looked up from the book he was reading.
"Himawari?"
She put a hand up, then slowly opened her eyes, blinking rapidly for a few moments as they came into focus.
"Sorry. It was brighter than I had expected," she said with a quiet laugh. "I didn't mean to interrupt, though. I can go . . ."
He just shook his head and went back to his book. She settled down next to him and leaned against his shoulder - reading with him as he skimmed the pages. After an hour or so, he marked his place in the book with a finger and turned his head to look at her. She was fast asleep - her face peaceful. It wasn't the first time she had done this. She would often find him at random hours of the night and stay with him until she fell asleep. He had asked her why once. She had just smiled and said, "I don't want you to be alone."
Careful not to wake her, he gently rested his head against hers and closed his eyes. Not to sleep, but just. Rest. It was somehow easier to do when she was there. He didn't quite understand it. But at the same time, he didn't really mind.
