Orochimaru had decided to spend his time in a small park relatively close to the school. A book was perched on his lap, his golden eyes scanning through the pages in peace. He liked Tokyo, while it was a very active and busy city, he could find quite places to be. He also found his living much more suitable for his pets, having decided upon taking Manda, Aku, and Kaida there with him. He flipped through the pages of a book, thin fingers moving over it.

Gaara was walking quickly, a covered and rathered large sketchbook under an arm and a leather satchel over a shoulder. He had been taking some sketches of flowers for a bigger project due soon.

Getting used to school again had taken some getting used too...but he was making it. And he enjoyed his classes.

Orochimaru didn't look up, entranced by the pages of his book, golden eyes tracing over it. He moved his legs slightly, shifting to fold them over the other. Another page gone, he turned it quickly. He was reading faster than normal, all the sounds he heard were quiet sounds of things in the distance.

Gaara walked by the other man before he paused. He recognized the other, very well. The redhead turned.

"...Orochimaru-kun."

That voice, it hadn't changed (if anything, he sounded not far from the way he sounded when Orochimaru first met him). His golden eyes peered up, and that smirk-looking half-smile crossed his lips. His eyes took in the redhead before him. He looked...the same to Orochimaru, perhaps a little older, but it had been some time since they spoke. Since just before he had put the end to Sabakuno Nakago. "...Gaara-kun."

"It has been a while since I saw you." Gaara stated, his green eyes staring, as always, steadily at the other man. "You are well?"

"Time has passed, but I have changed little, it appears that that applies to you as well." He closed the book, letting the thick thing rest on his lap.

Gaara turned and approached the man more closely.

"...Would you accompany me for some tea. Or coffee if you prefer."

Orochimaru stood up, and nodded at the offer. "Tea." he said simply, his golden eyes glancing around. "You are well, I assume? At home?"

"No, I live with my brother now." Gaara stated. "We have an apartment...it is strange but..." he shrugged. Living with Kankuro was somewhat easier than living with uncle - and at the same time harder. Kankuro let Gaara make his own decisions and Gaara was still learning how.

"It is peaceful?" Orochimaru asked, not particularly caring, and remaining distant all the same. "Without your father?"

Gaara was quiet for a moment and then he nodded. "Yes, it is."

The answer was satisfactory enough for Orochimaru and he just nodded. There was other things that had to be handled in Gaara's life, and he would take care of them eventually. It was almost a relief that he had in his posture. "...I am...glad to hear...things are satisfactory."

"And for you?" Gaara glanced up at him. "Are things...satisfactory?"

"They normally are..." Orochimaru said quietly, tucking the book under his arm as he walked. He peered around, he didn't know Tokyo as well as other cities, so he assumed Gaara knew whwere they were going.

"Normally?" Gaara inquired, pausing at a busy crosswalk.

"There is always an opportunity for things to not be as peaceful as they had been in the past..." Orochimaru said vaguely.

"Are you referring to a specific time?" Gaara asked as they started to cross the street.

"No," Orochimaru answered, once again as vague as it had been in the past. There was a time where things were not as peaceful, but he overlooked them.

Gaara was silent till they reached a small teashop, until they had sat and been given menus. Green eyes flickered over his and then Gaara decided he wanted to know. Looking up, the boy stared at Orochimaru. "...Did you miss me?"

Now was not a time for Orochimaru to be honest in his answer. He offered the best smile, the least threatening one he had, and he nodded. "The lack of your company was noticed." His way of saying...he missed Gaara, at least, in a way.

Gaara stared back, face expresionless for a long time. That was a vague answer, but Orochimaru was not the type to be straightforward at all times. The boy finally looked down at his menu, only speaking again to give his order when the waitress came

"Many asked me of your leaving," Orochimaru said. "Your sister spoke to me..."

Gaara looked up again and then away, staring at someone behind Orochimaru. "...I see."

"Look at me when you speak to me," Orochimaru said, his voice picking up a more demanding tone, one he rarely used on ones he considered students..of sorts.

Gaara's face snapped to Orochimaru's, green eyes slightly startled before he quickly did away with it. "My apologies." he said softly.

"It is a matter of respect," Orochimaru said. He had ordered something simple -- Green tea. "You are..reverting to how you were before I met you."

Gaara felt...chargrined. A faint blush painted his cheeks, but he didn't dare look down from Oorchimaru. Showing disrespect twice in a row was not something to be done. "...I am sorry."

"He has that effect on you...?" Orochimaru asked. It was a rather blunt question.

"Who?" Gaara blinked, confused.

"Your uncle."

Gaara shrugged, almost uneasily. "I...he does everything. I am not required to even think if I do not wish too."

"You allow yourself to be manipulated like that?" Orochimaru asked. A hypocritical statement, he knew. But how was he to control Gaara if the boy was under another's control?

"That's why Kankuro wanted me to move here." Gaara looked down briefly and then up again. "I do better...when I am not with him"

Orochimaru let himself look at the table for a moment, his book was set carefully at his side on the table. "...I have noticed a behavior difference when you are without him."

"I'd rather think for myself. It is difficult at times, but..." Gaara shrugged.

"Thinking for yourself is not difficult, " Orochimaru answered. "It takes time, but it is not difficult once you have...done it."

"I know." Gaara said. "It gets easier." He paused and then nodded as their orders were delivered.

Orochimaru nodded a bit, "M...yes. You will get used to it..." He moved his long, thin fingers to his cup of tea, holding onto it. He lifted it to his lips, taking a sip.

Gaara held his tea in front of his face, letting the steam hit him before he sipped his as well. There was a pause. "...You would not mind seeing me again?"

"I am prepared to spend any time with you that you find necessary." Orochimaru was not one to go seeking out people anymore, they now came to him.

"I would like to see you again." Gaara said slowly. "...I enjoy your company."

That was one of the most odd things to hear for Orochimaru. It piqued his curiousity mostly because he wanted to know what would make Gaara taking enjoyment out of someone who was beyond obviously attempting to have some level of control over him.

Gaara looked back at the man. "Did I say something strange?" he asked

"Those are words I am not used to, Gaara-kun," Orochimaru said. Although he was sure Gaara was just the same. He found Gaara's company...less irritating than most's.

"I meant them." Gaara said simply. He didn't see the point of saying things you didn't mean. It was a waste of time.

Orochimaru nodded, "You are someone who speaks their mind." It was something he came to understood, he would find it easy to find that what Gaara was saying was truth.

"I see little point in not doing that." Gaara stated. "To be vague or to say what you do not think or mean wastes time."

"Vagueness allows for someone to realize the answer on their own," Orochimaru pointed out.

"It could. I do not have time for such things."

"...Everyone has the time to think of the answer if they have the time to ask the question and listen to the vague words..." Orochimaru corrected. Gaara was being more...foward with him.

Gaara shrugged again. "It depends on your point of view."

"...Thoughts require little time," Orochimaru said. "They are not demanding, they come and pass. And...you should know me well enough to know another question can be asked if my answer doesn't give enough...information..."

"I know." Gaara said. He paused. "I know that I can ask things of you and you will answer. You do not get impatient. I appreciate that."

"When one is learning, the teacher can not be impatient, or the student may give up and rebel..." Orochimaru said, before taking a sip of his tea, his golden eyes staring at Gaara.

"You consider yourself my teacher?" Gaara asked. His demeanor changed very, very slightly. It seemed to lighten somehow -as if he were amused - however, Gaara did not smile or even curve his lips.

"...In a way," Orochimaru said simply, taking note of the change in Gaara's demeanor, it lightened, he wasn't used to seeing that.

Gaara seemed amused by something for the lightened demeanor stayed although he still did not smile - and still did not elaborate. "I hope I am a good student then."

Orochimaru looked almost amused at the words Gaara said. "You are a willing student...You wish to learn."

"I do." Gaara agreed. He refilled his tea cup from the small pot he had been brought. "You are going to the university I assume."

"..I am," Orochimaru said , a smirk crossing his lips as he moved his hand up to rest on the book he had set to the side.

"I started there, at the beginning of the fall semester." He stated.

"...Do you...enjoy it?" Orochimaru asked.

"Very much." Gaara said honestly.

"What are you studying...?" Orochimaru asked. He was playing being curious. He moved his fingers over the book quietly.

"Traditional 2-D art. Minor in Musical History." Gaara answered. "Not exactly what my uncle thought was right but..." Gaara shrugged.

Orochimaru let the smirk twitch at the corner of his mouth. "...Ah, so you are persuing art of yours I have witnessed. Do you play instruments?" he asked quietly.

"Yes." Gaara nodded. "Piano, flute, violin and guitar." He paused to drink again. "I am learning Shimansen now."

Orochimaru smirked, "A prodigy of sorts."

"I wouldn't consider myself a prodigy." Gaara stated. "I have not written anything spectacular, nor do I wish to ever preform for others."

"Prodigy implies you have talent...An ability to learn quickly, efficiently, to know so many...instruments in your lifetime is impressive..." Orochimaru reassured.

Gaara looked at Orochimaru for a moment and then shrugged. "I suppose you could look at it that way."

"It is said my point of view is different from most other's..." Orochimaru offered a half smirk.

"I have noticed that." Gaara said softly.

"You are someone who is much like myself in how they think..." Orochimaru said. "Different...is not negative."

Gaara set down his empty cup. "May I be forward enough to ask where you live now?"

"In an apartment near the university, it is common for the students to live there..." Orochimaru said quietly. He moved his fingers over the cub, moving over the glass with no further words.

"Perhaps we're near each other then." Gaara stated. He paused. "I hope so. I want to see you again."

"I intend to see you again," Orochimaru said. He was distant, otherwise. He did not hope or wish for things, like most people would have. He knew what was going to happen, he knew he had control over it.

Gaara nodded and then pulled out his wallet to leave some money. "I have to leave now." He looked at the other man. "I can give you my cell number."

Orochimaru nodded, but he would not call, he rarely even picked up his phone. "I do know we will meet before a phone is picked up..." Living in a nearby apartment and going to the same school verified that.

"Just in case." Gaara's eyes flickered slightly as he handed Orohcimaru a small square of paper with some number scrawled on it in a thin, slanting hand.

Orochimaru took the paper, and put it in the cover of his book, so Gaara knew that he did not intend to lose it or throw it away. "Of course," he said, and then his golden eyes flickered slightly, "Next time, I will allow for you to meet Kaida...my pet..."

"I would like that." Gaara stated. He picked up his satchel and put it over a shoulder and then picked up his sketchbook.

"...THen we will arrange for it," Orochimaru said, standing up himself, and tucking the book under his arm. "She is...eager to meet you."

"Is she?" that amused light seemed to shine for a moment and Gaara's lips even curled a bit. He nodded. "Then I will look forward to it."

Orochimaru had been about to make an addition to his statement, but he just simply nodded, his golden eyes taking note of the lightened expression. Gaara was easier to please than Sasuke was, in his opinion, and as a person, much easier to handle. He just nodded quickly.

Gaara turned and walked to the door. He paused to look back and give another nod, before walking out.

orochimaru, gaara
