As it happens, one of a very few romantic gestures made towards me by the last person with whom I was involved was a reference to my own habitual pedantry, which I daresay is annoying as hell to those who have to put up with it. Sometimes it's just instinctive though :-/ I come from a long line of schoolteachers, so maybe the urge to correct and specify and so on is buried deep in my DNA.
Anyway, the Other Person Involved retaliated by calling me on it every time I was a pedant, but mockingly, referring to me as a pendant to take the piss out of my tendency to get disproportionately narked about malapropisms and mispronunciations and the like coming from other people. This ended up becoming one of countless in-jokes between us (most of which were language based, now I come to think of it).
I was really touched, then, when for my birthday that year I was presented with a silver chain and a silver and pink mother-of-pearl pendant, which, in reference to the above, he'd had engraved on the reverse...
I really appreciated how much effort and awkwardness he'd gone through getting it done for me, so that I ended up with a gift that was personal as well as pretty (and punny). Funny also thinking of him trying to explain to the jeweller that he wanted the pendant engraved with pedant, no, not pendant, that'd just be silly... Tee hee.
Sighity sigh. Oh well, mustn't get misty eyed about a very rare thoughtful and romantic gesture amidst a tangle of deceits, betrayals and manipulation, however much that one instance of sweetness still means to me.
Aaaaaanyway, enough of that. Jacket potato and baked beans, mmmm. Beats my Valentine's Day dinner for one, which didn't actually happen, because I spent all day binge eating crap in a sort of grazing fashion (if that makes any sort of sense and isn't a contradiction in terms), as I've done every day lately. Must Snap Out Of It.
A long weekend would be fine by me - at the moment I only have regular committments on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings, and the former will cease before Easter. I haven't arranged anything for over Easter, either, so if a visit around that time would suit both of you, then go for it! Sorry I didn't reply to this earlier, btw - I went out into the garden after I'd posted the previous comment, and got distracted trying to construct a new flowerbed before the sun went down.
