"Anytime you warn the church against the "Once Saved, Always Saved" doctrines, or the "Cheap Grace" theologies, you will anger a lot of folks"
Yeah I know. I've taken to avoiding the topic, and I usually only comment on it if specifically asked about my position. I've actually gotten into it over this subject with the elder of my church in the middle of our bible study.
Anyone who is going to tell me that salvation can never be lost has got some explaining to do if they want me to take what they say with any measure of seriousness. And by explaining, I mean taking a King James Bible and showing me in context where the Scriptures states that salvation can never be lost. At that request, those opposed can only throw clichés. That's it!
It goes something like this:
THEM: We believe the OSAS doctrine.
ME: I give them what the Scriptures say concerning OSAS.
THEM: Well, we at (insert church group) believe in eternal security!
ME: But what do the Scriptures say? I read for them examples right out of the bible.
THEM: Well... we don't know about that. All we know is that (insert scripture taken out of context to support OSAS)
What really bothered me about this whole incident is that jamjar_girl and Torben have been friends of mine for about five years. They knew that this is what I've always believed. During all that time as a moderator there has never been a problem. Now all of a sudden, seemingly overnight things change. Further more, the mods are not even willing to discuss this openly. That tells me that there is something seriously wrong here. I say let the teaching be posted and let there be discussion. Let those that have serious issues with what is shared take it to the Lord in prayer and fastings.
when such a dominating religious spirit of error and fear take hold of a group... insomuch that the Scriptures can no longer be freely shared or presented as one feels led to, it's time to move on as you said.
