So after about 7 or so bothersome hours of delivery, Angel and I (not Sharra and I, this is a metaphor!) gave birth. We had some complications during the operation, and she has some deformities, but she's mine, and I'm doing the best I can to get her back to almost full health.
The computer came in yesterday, and in my excitement I took it to work and started putting her together there. Everything was going smoothly until I found out that the screw driver was magnetic.. So I put everything away, and then called Sharra. She said her uncle uses magnetic screw drivers for computer parts sometimes, so it shouldn't be a problem. So I went back to work, putting all the peices back together. Next snag I came to was the graphics card. A very nice peice of machinery that was a half an inch too long to put in, due to a fan duct blocking the way. I tried calling Angel and seeing what I should do, but he wasn't sure what I was talking about so we decided to just have him take a look at the part in question.
After work I took everything from the store to Angel's house directly and brought it in. Angel took a look at the peice of plastic and laughed 'cause he thought I was talking about something important, this (the fan duct that pipes air through the holes in the case) we could take out. So we got to work putting in the graphics card, and then the big problems started happening. The graphics card needs a 6 pin plug, to connect to a 4 pin. Angel said that the card would usually come with an adapter, but I hadn't seen one, so I started looking around for it. I went to the car and checked the boxes to see if maybe it dropped into one of them. No luck, so I went back in.
The chassis that holds both the CD driver as well as the HD and connects the ports to plug in camera memory cards through a little cable. It had been placed in the case when I left, but Angel took it out to take a look at something, and was holding it or had it close to the edge of the table. I came in, and bumped into his chair, and the chassis fell, to the floor. It was connected by a cable that ran from the power source to the ports on the top of the chassis, but has no connection elsewise to the drives. So the 4 metal wires that were the bastion of connection held maybe slightly as the chassis fell about 4 feet. The wires tore off from the chassis and are currently still inside the connector. Fortunately, we're almost positive this is not detrimental to the rest of the computer.
The chassis, however, is bent. Angel tried to fix it up a bit, only got a moderate bend back to normal. We tried putting it back into the case, but the metal was snatching upon something, so I tried looking for what the problem was. I took the chassis out of the case, and then turned it to be parallel to my eyes to see what the problem was. I was horrified as I saw the CD drive slide out of the chassis and fall onto the case (not the floor fortunately). Hopefully nothing incurred any damages..
So that's all the physical damage my computer has gone through so far. But there's still the story of searching for the adapter for the video drive. I went to the store to see if I left it there or if it fell on the floor outside while I was moving everything to the car. Didn't find anything. Angel and I went to about 4 or 5 stores, most of which didn't even know what we were talking about, none of which had the adapter we needed. We checked the store one more time with no success. So our only option is to express order the adapter..
***UPDATE***
So I've the computer at home right now, just sitting in it's case almost done. Last night we ordered an adapter which would convert the 4 pin to the 6 pin that we need to have for the video card. Found out today after looking at the comments made by people who bought it that the item wasn't correct for the video card, so I had to cancel the order and make a new order for the correct part, which I found.
Turns out that the card didn't come with the adapter though. I checked on Newegg 'cause they have pictures of the item you're buying, and those pictures include the accessories that come with the hardware. There wasn't an adapter at all in the picture, and one comment made about the video card said that you did indeed need an adapter for the card, so at least I know that I didn't lose it or it wasn't put in the box on accident. But I'll have to wait a day or so to get the item. Oh well, I've resigned to it.
Seems like it's a common occurence, I get something but it's not completely right one reason or another. Blah.
