TransAction- Nov. 18-20

Nov 15, 2004 21:08

Dear Montreal

Come to this. Please and Thanks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Join us for TransAction, a three day event taking place from November 18 - 20, 2004.

This date was originally chosen to correspond with the International Trans Day of Remembrance, a time during which we hoped to address issues of trans violence and to memorialize the lives of trans people murdered in the past year while also raising awareness about a variety of trans issues. As an organizing committee, we recognize that violence applies unevenly to different trans -- and non-trans -- communities due to systemic racism, classism, criminalization of prostitution, and misogyny. As people committed to social justice, we are questioning our own motivations for organizing around this date and asking what important coalition work needs to happen every other day of the year.

We hope to present a multitude of perspectives on trans lives within and across our communities, and to open up discussion, collaboration, and strategies for shared action against violence:
