Ugh. What a horrible day. I woke up at 4:30 for no reason at all, which wouldn’t be so bad except for the part where I couldn’t get back to sleep. I didn’t even have a nightmare or anything!! And I know my mum can tell too, because she kept giving me funny looks this morning…I know I’m never usually up early in the summer, but I should be allowed ( Read more... )

Hello Mandy. Does anyone actually do anything exciting over the summer? What a waste of six weeks. It's not all that long to go for the start of term. I think most people are meeting up and hanging around at Diagon Alley, from what I've heard since I got back anyway. I'll be catching up with Cho and maybe Anthony at some point. You could always meet us for lunch. Monday probably.

I'm so sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner. My little brother thinks it's funny when he drops things in the loo, and well...I think you can figure it out from there.

Mum went nuts trying to clean this thing off.

Anyway, "Monday, probably" is very okay with me. Anyday basically is.

It's ok, Mandy. He sounds like a right little angel, just like my twin sisters. Maybe we should introduce them...on second thoughts, maybe not. They'd probably plan a mini troll world take over.

I can be a bit more specific than that. Monday, 1pm, Florean Fortescue's.

Maybe the trolls would do the world some good. Methinks it would be a far more innocent age, what with all of the world's literature being dropped into toilets.

And 1 PM sounds brilliant to me. I will be so happy to finally get out of the house try some of the new flavors at Fortescue's.

You may have a point there. I wonder what they'd do with us though. We'd all be pretty useless without our written texts.

Great. I know Padma and Cho will be there. Not so sure about Anthony.

[[OOC: This thread, eventually. As soon as Cho and Michael get out of Flourish and Blotts.]]

Not all of us would be useless, I would think. I mean, I can whip up some pretty good mac and cheese from scratch, and I'm sure that you could use your manly Quidditch muscles to save the womenfolk and all that. Or, you know, use any other hidden talents that you haven't been telling us about.

I cannot wait to see actual people again.

We'd be their slaves? Great. Like regular babysitting wasn't torture enough. I suppose I could teach them to fly. FAR AWAY. Then, once they'd gone, we could seek out freedom.

That's definitely a better idea than serving them. I guess I'm just not defiant enough to think of such things. Flouting the status quo...pah!

But if we make them fly away, wouldn't that just thrust misery on some other poor souls? Some niggling scruples are telling me that that's wrong.

You're quite right. We can't let other people suffer the torment of the mini trolls. Maybe if I taught them to fly all the way to The Arctic, but cleverly conceal information on how they'd fly back? Actually, anywhere remote. Cold, but remote. I don't know why it has to be cold, but it does. They could wage war with the penguins, who would defeat them, naturally, because they would have far superior territorial knowledge and skills. That way, they'd be forced to find and organise their own colony in the icy mountains.

No one can beat the penguins.

But what if the penguins felt sorry for the mini trolls? They are awfully cute, after all. The birds might take care of them and teach them their tobogganing skillz. When they finally collaborated on their masterful world take-over, we would all be toast. The mini trolls would have taught them how to fly, and who can compete with flying penguins? It is the only natural advantage that they lack.

Well, if that happens, we'll all move to Hawaii, or somewhere extremely hot. The penguins won't venture there and the mini-trolls will avoid it because there won't be anyone to cover them head to foot in sun block.

I can't think of a devil's advocate for that one. And so you must have developed a truly brilliant plan. Fantastic work there, Michael!

Fortunately for us, our siblings don't actually know each other, so I think the world is safe, for the moment. But when the day comes, we are so ready.

Thank Merlin. And at least this gives us plenty of time to make preparations, just in case this unfortunate alliance ever takes place.

Out of curiosity, how old's your mini-troll? Mary and Shelly (my step-mum obviously knew she was going to have some evil geniuses for children) are five, well, six this week.

Mary and Shelly? No wonder they’re sadistic mini-trolls. They have quite a name to live up to there.

Gavin’s actually been six for a few months now. He’ll be starting primary in the fall; my mum wants him to be “well-rounded.” It also gets him out of her hair, I suppose. Can’t blame her for that.

Oh Merlin, they’ll probably be at Hogwarts together! Good thing we’ll probably be far away by then. Or, you know, dead.

Those two are as thick as thieves, it'll only get worse as they get older.

They're actually my step-sisters.
