Dave's Lyra Diary, Part V

Sep 08, 2005 09:27

Through a little more switching and such, we were supposed to be on Song #163, I believe... however, with some deletion, we moved back to...

Song #159... "Dilemma" by Nelly, feat. Kelly Rowland. Talked about it last time. Don't mind hearing it again.
Song #160... "I Know" by Dionne Farris. Former lead female vocals from Arrested Development (the 90s hip hop group, not the tv show). Song I remember as our theme song from Disney World in 1995 with Julie Haynes, Wendy Alexander and Reggie McAllister.
Song #161... "Disappear" by INXS. One of my favorite "openings" to a song.
Song #162... "Dive" by Steven Curtis Chapman. This song has to get you fired up... I mean, if you have a pulse, at least.
Song #163... "Dive" by dcTalk. Completely different song than SCC's, but just as cool. Kevin Max has the strangest voice ever. Except for Melanie Jackson, a college ex, but her's was a cute strange. Kevin's is a weird strange.
Song #164... "Dixieland Delight" by Alabama. Tyler would HATE this song... however, I can see where perhaps Will, Bradley or Kayla might like this, at least from a novelty standpoint. Spend my dollar, parked in the holler 'neath the mountain moonlight... and know, I dig on any song with good fiddlin' in it.
Song #165... "Do Not" by John Reuben. Perhaps the Christian Eminem, perhaps not, but he's still a cool guy and this is a very cool song.
Song #166... "Do You Know" by tobymac. Another extremely cool dude. His album Momentum is quickly climbing my personal charts of favorites.
Song #167... "Do You Remember" by Phil Collins. From the live album "But Seriously... Live". I like Phil Collins... he was much cooler in the 80s and early 90s, before he turned into a Disney singing wussnugget the last ten years. Not that anyone who sings Disney is a wussnugget, but he turned into one. Good live version of a good song, though.

Song #168... "American Pie" by Don McLean. Ask me about this song one day... I'll enlighten you.
Song #169... "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Keith Whitley. One of the purest voices in country music... too bad he committed suicide by drinking himself to death in the mid-90s. No joke. Alcohol poisoning after a binge
Song #170... "Don't Cry" by Seal. Artists like Britney, Hilary Duff and even Maroon 5 have cheeseball, shallow lyrics. Artists like Sting, Peter Gabriel and Seal have lyrics that have to be listened to and understood... thats good and bad. Anyway, this is a fantastic song. I think Tyler would like it in a strange sort of way.
Song #171... "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston. You've heard it in various movies and such... quite the disco anthem. Most of you would HATE it, though I can see Jamie having a hoot of a time with it.

Song #172... "Don't Make Me Wait For Love" by Kenny G. I love my bro-in-law, but in music, we couldn't be more different. I think this song is awesome, with Kenny's soprano sax and some vocalist I can't remember, but my bro Tyler? He would HATE THIS SONG with every living breath in him. Upon hearing it, I think he would probably roll his eyes, get agitated that it was playing and eventually, kick small children to make it stop. I like it, though.

Song #173... "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson. Oh, this was back when we was totally black, complete with greasy curls and dark skin... he was the MAN back in 1981. This song is just awesome. From the album "Off the Wall"
Song #174... "Don't You Know" by Watermark. From the cd All Things New. Watermark is by far and away my favorite Christian group. Love me some Knapp, some Talk and some Mac, Nordeman, but no one speaks to me like Watermark does. And Christy Nockel is hot.
Song #175... "I Love You (always forever)" by Donna Lewis. Random one hit wonder song that really appeals to me. All you girls--Megan, Anna, Kara, Kandice--You'd like it. The boys--you'd hock a loogie on it if you could. Trust me, I know this stuff.
Song #176... "Dreamlover" by Mariah Carey. The other night, when discussing Mariah stuff, I discovered this somehow did not make it on the Lyra... I immediately went home and loaded it. Probably in my top 3 Mariah songs.
Song #177... "Dreamin'" by Vanessa Williams. You know the Radio Shack commercials with Teri Hatcher and Howie Long? And then the other one with that black dude from Con Air (he's Ving Rhames) and some other chick? Thats Vanessa Williams. She used to sing. Pretty well, in fact.
Song #178... "Driven to Humility" by Watermark. From their first album, entitled "Watermark". One of the best tracks on the cd.

Wow, its 1122am already...

Song #179... "Drops of Jupiter" by Train. I used to hate this song, but it grew on me bigtime.
Song #180... "Hotel California" by The Eagles. Here's another song that you would neglect yourself by not knowing about. So download it, like right now, and listen to it.
Song #181.. "September" by Earth Wind & Fire. Ditto what I said about Hotel California. Funk, R&B classic.
Song 182... "Unbelievable" by EMF. This came out in 1991, and I remember it like it was yesterday... this is the epitome of the music sound right as grunge was about to hit the mainstream. Talk about a one hit wonder...
Song #183... "Emotions" by Mariah. Not one of absolute faves by Mariah, but still good enough to make the cut nonetheless. This was her 2nd single, by the way, ever.
Song #184... "End of the Line" by The Traveling Wilburys. The Traveling Wilburys consisted of: Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison & Jeff Lynne. They formed this group just to do an album together, and this was their big hit... a very folksy fun song, also featured in the trailers for The Terminal (w/Tom Hanks)
Song #185... "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Doesn't James Hetfield look as if you could kick back with him watching a football game, yet at the same time, look as if he might kill you and then eat your arm for dinner? This song rules.
Song #186... "Escapade" by Janet Jackson. She can be a little naughty (and I'm not a fan when she is) but on the flip side, she's so talented... this is a great song.
Song #187... "Every Breath I Take" by The Police. You know all those songs that I keep saying you need to be familiar with? You don't even have to like it, but you need to, as a music fan, have heard it and at least appreciate it? Lets call them "Necessities." This song is A Necessity.
Song #188... "Every Heartbeat" by Amy Grant. Yes, I take the role of Pansy very seriously, so shut up.
Song #189... "Every Little Thing I Do" by Soul For Real. Ah, such a great little ditty, easy to sing to, easy to dance to...
Song #190... "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" by The Police. Not quite a Necessity, but important nonetheless.
Song #191... "Every Time You Say Goodbye" by Alison Krauss & Union Station. Hmm... I think Tyler would at least appreciate this song, if only for the guitar & mandolin parts, while I can see Kayla and Katie Bell really enjoying this song. Just my thoughts.
Song #192... "Everyday is a Winding Road" by Sheryl Crow, from the album Sheryl Crow. Like Alison, Sarah, Mariah and J-Knapp... I love this chick.
Song #193... "Everything that Glitters Is Not Gold" by Dan Seals. Another one all of you would absolutely hate... I like it, though, because its a country song from my youth.
Song #194... "Everything Zen" by Bush. This is one of those songs that I was waiting for... and its lunch time (1245p), no one is in the office but me, so I'm blaring it. Rock on.

Song #194... "Everything Zen" by Bush. I hit the "back" button and am hearing it again. Just cause.

Song #195... "Everything" by Watermark. Keeping in mind I can't remember whats next, to go from Bush to Watermark... thats quite a change.

Song #196... hmm... I really like this song, but its 1pm, time for lunch... so perhaps I'll get to this one after lunch.
