Ok, so I am not one to write bitchy entries, or talk about people's actions, or write entries on controversial topics here...I just don't do it usually, and I think it's stupid.

That having been said, I'm changing my ways this one time because I'm really just...a little pissed...maybe? That's perhaps too strong a word...but I'm annoyed.

(From this point on, if you at all think I'm the least little bit cool...don't read this. In fact, the only person that probably should be reading this is Holly.)

So, the Harry Potter book 7 release date was announced. July 21st. I don't like it. Not at all. First off, I wasn't rooting for a summer release date, and if they are going to do one, it should at least have some signifigance.

The movie comes out this summer. That's plenty. I love the books much more than the movies, of course, but I don't want to get all excited for the movie, then get all excited for the book, then see the movie three times, then read the book in one day, and then...it's over. I mean, yes, I read the books over and over, but that's not the point. No matter how many times you read the book, there is still only one time when you go in fresh. There is only one time when you're not overanalyzing ever detail, when you're not dreading or anticiptaing certain events. You only have one chance to go in fresh, and once it's over, that's the end...until the next book.

However, this is the last book. No more guessing what's going to happen, no more reading editorials of theories online, and most importantly, no more books. :-(

But ok, so the end was obviously coming, but why not end it on a significantly important day?

Really need to end it during the summmer? That's fine...I have two suggestions!

7-7-07 was the first and most obvious choice. If you read the books, you know that it states that "7 is the most powerfully magical number". Voldemort has seven horcruxes, the Weasley's have seven children, Harry's wand is seven inches...the list goes on and on of how much the number seven is mentioned and signifigant throughout the series. So release the book then if you must have a summer date.

Ok, that's only six days away from the movie, and although it's really cool, perhaps it's too predictable for JK. So take a few weeks and release it on July 31st. This is both Harry and Jo's birthday. How delightful. Happy Birthday Jo, have billions of dollars from the sales and the satisfication of knowing that you have millions of people ditching their friends and hermiting up in their room for a day or so. (Or, as usually happens with me, actually being a room with my friends, and just ignoring them point blank.)Plus, that's an extra eighteen days after the movie. Lots of time to recoop from all the excitment.

However, as I said, I wasn't in the market for a summer release date. Truth be told, I wasn't even necessarily up for an '07 release date. By all means stretch it out and make us wait. Although, '07 does hold the "seven" factor in it, which I am a fan of. My suggestion? Halloween. No, the book is not centrally themed as "spooky". Just because it deals with witches or wizards does not mean it should be released on Halloween. But here's why I think that Halloween is signifigcant:

1. All of the action that the series is really about began on Halloween. That's when Voldemort murdered Harry's parents, tried to murder Harry, and lost his abilities. Technically, the prophecy that led Voldemort to do those things was recorded sometime before that, but, Voldemort comfirmed it on Halloween.

2. The seventh book is called "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". The meaning of 'hallows' was debated heavily on Mugglecast, but my belief is that the definition that JK is going with, is that hallows refers to a time when the veil between the living and the dead is at it's weakest. (Let's review, Holly, DEAD. VEIL. See where I'm going?) Anyway, therefore, it directly relates to All Hallows Eve a.k.a. Halloween.

I like my reasoning...that's why I believe it. However, looking at it perspectively, Jo probably has her own reasoning. She's one clever chickee, so I'm willing to allow for something really important happening in Book 7 on July 21st. The 31st, as I've previously stated, is Harry's birthday. More importantly, it's the day when he turns seventeen (I really can't let anything go), comes of age in the wizarding world, and is no longer protected by the "magic" that his mother gave him by sacrificing herself.

As the books have always started somewhat around Harry's birthday, perhaps this one starts on the 21st, and the whole course of action takes place within 10 days. (Although given the amount of work Harry has to do, and the fact that he can't apparate on his own until his birthday, it doesn't seem likely.

So, in summation, I'm a little upset, but I'm putting my faith in Jo, and I am actually quite excited. :)
