So what a FABULOUS break!!
My mom picked me up from the airport and we went home and there were no hot nows at Krispey Kreme, so we *had* to go to Starbucks (so sad...). Then we went shopping and she made taco soup (my faaavorite) for dinner and Daddy and I went to the Wake v. Elon game. Not a great game, but lots of fun. It should have been a ROMP for the Deacs and they only won by like 20. But the student section was full, so that always makes stuff more fun, even though we were sitting in around the only Elon fans in the entire stadium.
Saturday, my dad was going to get Krispey Kremes for breakfast and said he'd probably go around 8. So I decided to get up at 8:30 so they'd still be hot...yeah...that didn't happen...but that was fine. After lunch mom and I went shopping and got a few major good things that I've been needing (new chorus skirt, plain black pumps, bday gift for alison, xmas gift for grandma). Saturday night...uh...let's see...we got Qdoba for dinner...aaand....something else must have happened...but I have no recollection of what.
Sunday, I got up and went to church! It was soo good to see all the HPC people! They were having a breakfast program before church to rehash the most recent trip to Guatemala and it was sooo good to see pictures and stuff. Heather had some pictures of Zulma (my adopted girl) and her family with the package we sent down there, so that was really special. Church was great. We have a new interim pastor who is okay. His mannerisms are very reminiscent of the Uncle in Mary Poppins who laughs so much that he gets stuck on the ceiling. I had trouble not giggling about that during his sermon lol.
Sunday afternoon, Audrey and I packed up (she'd been home for the weekend) and went to Chapel Thriill!! It was great!! Her room is massive (like twice as big as mine) and we got to have dinner with Alison and Kate Sullivan and Audrey's roommate so that was good. Then...
THE CLEFS CONCERT!! AAAH so amazing. Seriously. I was in heaven. David Mikush (my friend from home) had the big solos in both Carolina in my Mind and Africa (my two favorite songs) and Andrew Simpson, a kid with whom I went to Gov School, was in it too, which I didn't know, so that was cool. David was really genuinely happy to see me afterwards, so that was really exciting. I felt appreciated and it was a fabulous concert. Definitly better than last year. Gotta love 'em, gotta love 'em :)
Audrey had a big paper due Monday, so after the obligatory trip to yogurt pump, we went back to her room and put in "That thing you Do" and I watched/did crosswords and she watched/did work. Then I went guiltily to bed, feeling bad that I was putting her out while she had so much work, and she stayed up til like 4.
We got up early and I packed up the car and went to Starbucks and had a coffee and she went to class and I went home. It was great. I am so proud of her for really coming into herself in the past few months and she seems so much happier this year and I am so glad. I got home by like 10 and practiced for a whole hour which was really really good. I felt very productive. Then Elizabeth and I went to La Caretta for lunch (oh yummmm cheeeeeze dip...) and browsed David's Bridal. I found a gorgeous dress, but when I brought my mom back later to look at it, it was a no go which was sad. But oh well. I worked Monday afternoon. Yeah. That was fine.
Tuesday I got up and did some practicing. Then I further embraced my Southern-ness by going to Bojangles with Alison for breakfast and then taking her to the DMV to renew her license. I had coffee with Heather (our youth director) and then went home and got ready and went to dinner with Cameron. It was good to see him. Yeah. Um. Whatever.
Wednesday I did some more shopping and stuff. Went to see Casino Royale in Alison's new car with she and Elizabeth. It was amaaazing. James Bond is just hot. Regardless. H-O-T-T. On the way home, however, it was 1 am and Alison didn't know about the new law about pulling into the left lane when you see a cop pulling someone else over. It was 1 am, she had temporary tags, and so, we got pulled turning off of Silas Creek. That was kind of scary/annoying, but apparantly they're pretty serious about it. I felt kind of bad because I knew and thought of that when we saw the cops pulling this guy over, but decided not to say anything because I didn't want to be the obnoxious backseat driver. We both wished I had afterwards. Luckily, the guy was very nice and just gave Alison a warning and there wasn't any trouble. But it was still just a little disconcerting to be sitting there on the side of the road seeing the blue lights swirling around. Ack. Never a good feeling.
Thanksgiving was good. I wish I hadn't been up so late because I wound up kind of passing out for a lot of the afternoon upstairs. Oh well. Dinner was yummy. Played trivial pursuit with my dad after dinner and stuff. It was good to see my Aunt and Uncle and Grandma. I wish it could have been longer.
Friday I got up and went to Chapel Hill for lunch with Elena!! yay!! It was sooo good to see my Elbow Buddy. Again, a visit that was too short, but desperately needed and very good :)
Friday night we had girls' night out at Village Tavern and then a dessert run to Krispey Kreme and to cook out for milk shakes. It was really really good to be all together again. Too bad Mary Kate couldn't be there, but as is clearly documented on Facebook, we had a lot lot lot of fun. Then everyone left, and Alison and I had our own shenanigans at my house. Two words sum this up: drunk muffins. Oh buddy...good good times.
Saturday was a pretty blah day. Alison stayed until 11:30 and my parents didn't get home from Cary/Wilmington until like 5. I cleaned up, went and ran a few errands, sat around reading. It was kind of depressing because I was just thinking about how I had to leave and while I was really excited to be coming back to my kids in Ithaca, it was sad to be leaving home. Saturday night, we had dinner and Elizabeth came over to say good bye and watch me pack and then Mom, Dad, and I watched High Society. It was good.
Today I got up and came back here. That's it. Nothing earth shattering or really amazing, but just a really really good break.
I wish I could be genuinely excited about the fact that I'll be back in less than a month...unfortunately, I just can't help but think about how I'm going to be feeling the next time I'm getting into the Greensboro airport...it'll be either really really good...or really really bad... :-/
Anyway, for now, it's just great to be back on my floor with my girls. Hopefully Erin should be here any minute!! :)
