So last night was pretty amazing!
A big group of us went to Binghamton to see "La Boehme" at Tri-Cities Opera! It was a little sketchy getting there (no offense to anyone, but Binghamton is kind of a hole...) but the theater was one of those gorgeous theaters that had kind of seen better days, but was still really pretty. And of course, "La Boehme" is my favorite opera. You really just can't screw it up. I won't lie and say that this was the best opera that I've ever seen. But for a small city opera company in a town without a conservatory, it was really quite good. The tenor needed some work and the girl who played Mimi had some interesting stuff going on both vocally and acting-wise, but the baritone was excellent and Musetta was great (although the director was not having her be slutty enough. I'm sorry, Musetta is supposed to be a whore. Just do it.). The children's chorus left much to be desired--and actually, they took the entire second act too slowly...but I really really did like it, overall. I'm of course too picky since a) I'm a voice major and this is probably what I'll do with the rest of my life and b) I was in this opera when I was 11. The second act takes place on Christmas Eve in a town/crowd scene and there are children, so Act II is my specialty :-p This is also when my favorite aria ever (Quando Men Vo) happens and that part was good. But they took the whole act too slow and the children's chorus had a bad tone and their Italian was abysmal. Wow. I'm such a snob :-p I really DID like this!!
Anyway, it was great fun. I love getting all glitzy. I was probably actually the dressiest one, but we never really got a group shot, so we can pretend :-) And Emily and Erin both took pictures of me in my hotness. so yay. :D
So who knows what is in the cards for today...I'm going to brunch with Erin's family and then there's a recital at 2 that I'm going to. Maybe (if I'm feeling motivated) I'll practice before or after that and then get some work done before the band/jazz lab concert tonight. Then we have a floor Halloween party organized by Betty for our girls and their parents. Then the girl whose recital I'm going to is in Erin's studio and we're invited to a party at her apartment tonight. I don't know if I'm going or not. Erin asked me to go with her and it would probably be fun, but I'm going to wait and see how I'm feeling then. I'm really really tired right now, so maybe if I get a nap this afternoon, I'll feel more like going. Good grief I'm so lazy. I am the worst college student ever!
Ok, enough rambling about nothing. Hope everyone is having a good and SAFE pre-Halloween weekend.
