I got a phone call from my mom a few Sundays ago telling me that my cousins from Maine were going to be coming in in two days. They were supposed to be coming in the next week, which is when I took time out of work... Sigh. Frustrating.
Luckily, my job can be done by monkeys, and Megan was more than willing to be the kitty babysitter, so in two days time, I headed home.
I arrived at the pool (the super awesome hideout for my mom's side of the family) and I met Stasi for the first time! She's my new baby cousin! The best part was that she reached for me right away. Everyone was jealous because apparently, she hadn't been happily going to anyone. (However, I tend to have this reaction with babies. There are several incidents I can think of where a random baby on the subway will reach for me and the parents will be shocked, etc. There was one time in particular that I remember I was in a parking lot and there was a screaming baby in a stroller with a very exasperated mother in tow. The baby saw me, stopped crying, and actually started cooing, giggling, and reaching for me. The mother was like "Wow. It's like she knew you. She never responds like that to anyone." I have determined that I was a fairy nanny in a previous life.) Anyways, I got to play with Stasi and spend more time with her mother Tosha who I had only met at Chris's wedding.
The week went okay. My cousins tend to think I'm not one of them anymore and had the tendency to leave me behind or just not talk to me. This has kind of been going on for years. They'll always send a mediator (used to be Dennis, but now it's Patrick) to tell me what's going on, but will never actually talk to me themselves. They used to stay at my house, too, but that changed when a previous baby was born in the family and having them stay with him became a free babysitter. I think that was when the ties began to break. We used to have so much fun, too.
Well, I did hang out with Emma a lot. Our first adventure was that we had to catch up with my cousins at the beach because I had a dentist appointment in the morning. The problem was that their Maine cell phones weren't getting service, so there was no way to locate them. We FINALLY got in touch with them after an hour of dragging our stuff everywhere. The first thing I did was jump in the water, which was beautiful! And there was a tropical storm off the coast so the waves were AWESOME! I definitely got tossed around a few times, but it was worth it.
We went to go see The Simpson's movie that night with the family. I didn't think it was very funny, but whatever. The Simpson's and I aren't as close as we used to be, I guess.
Let's see...
The cousins and I went to the casino one night. I came out even. We also saw a comedy show there, which was pretty good.
There were two nights of watching the Muppets with Emma and eating dessert.
Mom took me riding at a stable in East Greenwich. I ended up with sassy little horse named Pepper. She was in fact a spicy little thing. She had previously been a ranch horse, but the owner sold her because she had too much attitude. Soo... we got along well, lol. All this horse wanted to do was GO. The trail leader actually let me lead most of the time because it was just easier than having Pepper biting the other horses' asses. The trail leader was very surprised at how well Pepper listened to me. I hardly had to touch her at all and she would just weave in and out of whatever I told her to. Apparently she was grateful to have someone on her who knew what they were doing because according to the trail guide, Pepper usually spends most of her time tossing her head with her ears back and trying to maneuver her way back to the barn. But I never had a problem, which was very exciting. At one point, she even let me canter ahead of them to let Pepper stretch her legs. Well, I tried to canter, but this horse wanted to RUN. Every time we were supposed to canter them, Pepper FLEW. It was as if she was running for her life. I have never been on a horse going that fast before! It was amazing!!! It was great because she was so small and I could just wrap my legs around her and hold on easily. Plus, she was a very smooth ride. Just awesome.
Well, after saying good-bye to everyone, I headed back to NYC a week later.
Tornadoes came to Bay Ridge. Awesome...
That same day, Mom, Greg, Katy, cousins from upstate NY as well as the RI cousins all had a planned trip to NYC. I met up with Mom, Greg, and Katy eventually, once the trains were running. They wanted to see a matinee to kind of get it out of the way so we could spend the night doing whatever we wanted. I got them tickets to see Drowsy Chaperone because it's extremely funny and entertaining. We ended up being first row mezzanine! It was my third time seeing the show and I loved it just as much as the first.
We then did some wandering and met up with the rest of the family for dinner at Olive Garden. After that, we went to the new Ripley Grier's Believe It or Not Odditorium. And then we headed back to my apartment so everyone could meet the kitties!
Otherwise I've just been hanging out. I did see "I Know Who Killed Me" with Saro. It was amazingly bad. It will definitley become a cult classic.
I'm thinking of investing in an elliptical machine because I hate going to the gym and would rather watch Gargoyles in my own home while burning calories.
