[television] Jon Richardson: A Little Bit OCD

Jul 25, 2012 17:23

rhiannonhero asked me to link her to this, so I decided instead to share on here, as I know there are many Jon Richardson lovers on my f-list. And even if you don't know who I'm talking about, it's really good and genuinely interesting. Also, because it's me talking about a TV show, I'm going to include it as part of my 100 Things Blogging Challenge:

Ooooh, thank you! I don't know that much about him yet, but I am reading his book and loving it. (or let's say it's well written and I love jon - the book makes me feel sad inside).

Sorta been planning to add up to the jon so will watch this. <3

Off topic but I find your icon fascinating. It looks a bit like the youtuber crabstickz but from your description I know it's not. Who is it/what is it from?

Oh, thank you! ^^

It's a fragment out of a music video, 'Love Sweet Exile' by the Manic Street Preachers. The guy in the icon is Richey Edwards. He played guitar and wrote the lyrics for the Manics when they first started off in the early 90's. The rest of the band still make music, but Richey disappeared after their 3rd album was released.

Haven't watched it yet - will try to - but I'm sure I'd heard the bit about him sleeping in his car before. Possibly at a gig he did at the Students Union here. (It went really well, but then we saw Mark Olver a few weeks later and apparently Jon had thought it was a horrendous gig and everyone hated him. That pretty much made me want to cry)

Yeah, every time I've seen Jon, he's not mentioned the flatshare at all, and the only time I encountered Jon talking about miserable living situations was in his book. Which I'm presuming Russell et al have read so he mustn't have mentioned it in there or they wouldn't have been so surprised.

I wanted more of the section with Russell et al, not just because omg Russell/Jon (although that was excellent and I was so very pleased), but because I'm genuinely interested in that part of Jon's life. It was the time I was most invested in him, so to learn more about what was happening outside the radio show would've been fascinating.

Him sleeping in the car broke my heart, though.

Yeah, I would have liked more with Russell, John and Mark, and also with Fordy, but only if they also discussed the good times too. I don't think I could have coped with more of them if they were just talking at greater length about how sad Jon was. Because he must have been happy in that flat at times, mustn't he?

Oh Jon. I had forgotten how adorable he is and the dimples!
I haven't made it all the way through the show yet (I'm on part 3 with the hospital and the bathroom thing and I just...oh the anxiety it is causing me. I had to pause it and do other things.) It seemed to me like there was some underlying tension between Jon and Russell but that they genuinely do care about each other and I agree, Russ looked so shocked about him sleeping in the car. (And I wanted to give Jon all the hugs when he was talking about how he was the problem and just... *cry*)

I totally agree with you that it's superbly and respectfully presented, which I haven't actually seen in these kinds of shows from the UK (at least the ones they show on BBC America.) There always seems to be some underlying mocking and jokes at the expense of the people they're portraying and this show is refreshingly lacking the often jokey voice over.
