Hello chums!
I'm feeling much better now. My cough is still there a bit, but otherwise I've recovered from the flu. It's the sickest I've been in quite a while, and I've missed out on all the nice weather between that and work. (I'm off today, so I'm going out into the garden after this post.)
I promise, all the stuff I said I'd post about, I will do over the next week. And I'll reply to comments too. But it will have to wait a bit longer because it is EUROVISION WEEKEND! Eurovision is like the highlight of my entire year! I still need to update my Eurovision Drinking Game to add year-specific rules, but what I'm here to do today is share some of my favourite Eurovision entries from the past few years.
THIS SECTION IS DEDICATED TO MOLDOVA
Moldova are probably my favourite Eurovision country, because from the six years that they have been involved in the contest, three of those songs would enter my all-time Eurovision favourites. This year is quite disappointing for them in comparison to these three.
Zdob si Zdub - Boonica Bate Toba/Grandmamma Bangs The Drum (2005)

You guys, I fucking love Zdob si Zdub. They're absolutely mental, and dancey, and fun. And they have an actual grandma! This was Moldova's first ever entry, and they came 6th!
Zdob si Zdub - So Lucky (2011)

Zdob si Zdub returned last year with this song, dressed as unicycling gnomes. The trumpet section in this song is FANTASTIC. They came 12th, even though I'd argue this song is better than Boonica Bate Toba.
SunStroke Project - Run Away (2010)

EPIC SAX GUY AND TRON VIOLIN!
OTHER FAVOURITES
Jakob Sveistrup - Talking To You (Denmark, 2005)

My BFF Gibson and I love this song for many reasons. It's a genuinely happy little pop song. Terry Wogan likes the song too. His shirt is fabulous. He came 9th.
Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai (Ukraine, 2007)

The song by which all future entries will be judged in terms of camp greatness. I think this came 2nd.
Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finland, 2006)

Obviously.
Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (Norway, 2009)

I'd admit, I wasn't too into this when it aired (2009 was the year of violins, I was sick of hearing them), but then I listened to it again a couple of months later and it is a genuinely brilliant song. I love the dancers too. I also spent September 2009 - June 2010 living with Norwegians, who ADORED Alexander Rybak, so I was exposed to him a lot.
LT United - We Are The Winners (Lithuania, 2006)

They didn't win.
Jedward - Lipstick (Ireland, 2011)

Fuck you all, Jedward are the perfect Eurovision act and this song is genuinely good. Plus, nobody puts as much effort in as these two. Dear boys.
Eric Saade - Popular (Sweden, 2011)

He's performing in front of a giant Pokeball! This is one of those songs that's really annoying, but you'll still end up singing along. Plus, it has a great rhyme: "Stop, don't say that it's impossible/Because I know it's possible." HOW DO THEY THINK OF THESE THINGS? Unsurprisingly, he came 3rd.
Blue - I Can (UK, 2011)

Okay, so this was pretty crap, but it was better than most recent UK entries. As a nation, we spent most of the 00s purposely sending the worst acts we could find. Anyway, I include Blue purely because of how drunk I got, as my drinking game for the year included a shot for every signature Lee Ryan wail. And what does Lee Ryan do in this song EXCEPT wail?
Peter Nalitch and Friends - Lost and Forgotten (Russia 2010)

This song gives me more lulz than possibly any other. There's a reason I used it in the Reid Oliver Cartoon Saga. It's like a Russian soap opera in song form.
BONUS
Father Ted and Father Dougal - My Lovely Horse

Hands down the funniest moment of all of Father Ted. I can't wait for the year Ireland finally thinks "FUCK IT!" and has Jedward cover this while Michael Flatley and the cast of Riverdance jig in the background.
