[recs] Vampire Fiction

A couple of weeks ago, tuut_harold asked me for recommendations of vampire films. It was quite fun (vampires are kinda one of my things). So because of that, I decided to share some recommendations with you guys. Obviously, I've not seen everything, so I welcome recommendations myself.

Only now, I'm expanding to include TV shows and books too:

I will try my best to watch and read a lot of this, and I'll have to start by deciding which ones to start with. The very very first thing I will do is watch Alex Day read twilight because:
- ALEX DAY IS MY HERO (two days ago I ended up watching a 40 second long cereal commercial, because he was 'presenting' it and I cannot switch off Alex Day. He was really giggly and adorable about it.)
- Twilight is amazing.

For books, I want to start with 'The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy's Secret Werewolf Babies, by the Nine Naught Novelists' because it has the best title ever. I will also read Salem's Lot because I'm quite a big Stephen King fan (and yet still don't know this one). For movies, I'm thinking Nosferatu / Near Dark and Dracula (the one with Bela Lugosi) and then the Hunger because DAVID BOWIE AHEM.

I'm also quite pleased that the only movie in that entire list I've seen is 'Vampire Kiss.' It might not be a classic, but I am quite certain it's one of the best in the list. In it's own, unique, BOHOOOO-HOOO-HOOOO kind of way.

I used to watch a lot of True Blood, but gave up some time around season 3 or perhaps 4. I would recommend the first and the second season, for partly the good storylines and partly because some of the stuff is so overdone it becomes entertaining. Especially the whole obsession with '....sookaaaaaaay' by every single character in the entire show.

While I'm pleased you're going to read The Zillionaire Vampire Cowboy because my friend is one of the Nine, I simply must urge you to read I Am Legend too, whether before or after Salem's Lot, because it's frankly incredible (and also, the author sadly died very recently.)

All good choices on the film front. They're all good, obviously, or I wouldn't recommend them, but I'm glad you're starting with my two favourites. And The Hunger I actually got to write my second year exam about, so that was amazing. And it opens with Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi's Dead.

I know you're already watching Being Human, and that I'm urging you to watch Teen Wolf and In the Flesh, but in terms of vampire stuff I'd say go for Ultraviolet or Hemlock Grove after Being Human, because there's not a lot of them (though there'll probably be more Hemlock Grove in the future.) Or Dante's Cove for the badly acted gay porn.

Alex Reads Twilight is the best thing Alex Day has ever done.

If you aren't planning on proposing first, can I please marry this man?

I love how goofy his face looks and how his brain works <3
