so much to do, so much to see ...

in the past week, we finally rid ourselves of certain unresponsive professors, frequented a drag show, had a farewell braai for the owners of our guesthouses, completed our radio documentary scripts and then today there were 2 adventures. the first of which is best explained in person, and the second of which ...

Carrie and I finally met up with Florence, the woman we met at the TAC March on Parliament! we met her as she got off of work at Fabric City, then came with her on the train to Gugulethu, a township on the Cape Flats. I'm not sure how best to describe Florence except that she rivals my grandma for coolness. She also sort of reminds me of Sorina, my Romanian babysitter in Ohio ... we shared biscuits and Jive soda, danced to kwito with her and her grandchildren, and dished about everything from the Universal Church of the Kingdom of G-d to the ongoing housing crisis in Cape Town to American soap operas. she wouldn't let us go back on the train alone, much to our chagrin - she flagged down a police car and told them to drive us home, despite our repeated protestations that we HAD taken the train before and would be fine ... we were sort of mortified, but we had an interesting conversation with the police officers, Dali and Edna, on the way back.

I'm going to go collapse on my bed now.
