A Detroit Boy In The Windy City pt. 2

Jul 12, 2007 23:59

Prof. Form and I woke up the next morning, and got ready to head out. Jessica was nice, and gave us the a key incase we needed to come back to the apartment for anything while they were out. I had a small mis hap with the shower, and flooding the bathroom, but it was no biggie. Geoff and I got ourselves together and headed out. It was very early, so we had lots of time. We started out by parking in the same structure we had parked in yesterday. We then had to decide on if we wanted an expensive breakfast or dinner. I was in the mood for breakfast food, but everywhere we looked, we couldn’t find anything. We ended up going to Parana Bread for breakfast. As we sat, we began to plan the day. We for sure wanted to shop. I didn’t have any money, but Prof. Form did, and wanted to buy. After we ate, we walked to our first clothing stop. H & M. We walked to the Men’s section where Geoff tried on all different hats and asked me which ones looked good. We made our way though the clothes and finally came to the underwear. Not the straight kind, mind you, but the booty trunks that only gay men would wear. Geoff looked through all the pairs, trying to decide which ones he wanted to buy. Finally he decided on the ones with the comic book characters on them. They said “KBAMM” on the butt. In the end, this was his only purchase from H & M, and the one purchase he was most excited about for the rest of the day. When the man rung him up, Geoff told him that they were a gag gift for a friend who likes comics. The cashier replied “well, wouldn’t your friend like them more, if he likes comics?” Geoff was lost for words at this, and when the cashier turned his back he chocked out “Gay”. I just stood back and watched as Geoff got embarrassed. After H & M, we went into the two story Urban Outfitters. We went upstairs and basically found everything to decorate every room of your home. It was 60’s meet modern day, and apparently, it was all the IN style. After Urban, we hit up Old Navy, where every shirt Geoff wanted was only to be found on the plastic models. We kept having to ask for assistance in removing the shirts from them. From here, Geoff ended up buying quite a lot. A few blocks, and two pictures with the moose later, we found ourselves walking into Millennium Park.

There we suddenly heard music. As we approached the amp theater, we saw the symphony practicing. Roby had mentioned this to us, but I didn’t think we would actually get to see it. It was magnificent. A clear day, and there, under the metal architecture, we were watching the symphony play their sound out loud. It was amazing. After listening to the free concert, we walked out of the amp theater and there, in front of us, was the infamous piece of art work known as “The Bean”. Little did Geoff and I know then that The Bean was famous, and everyone that came to Chicago got pictures with The Bean. The Bean was a giant, silver, bean shaped piece of glass built entirely out of reflecting metal. It was indeed one of the coolest things we had ever seen.

After the Bean, Geoff and I hit up the family fun center tent, and sat and drew pictures of each other on paper that was to be hung along the walls. We were hit on by a Mexican that was working the tent, but we managed to get him to leave us alone; not before however, he told us that the art museum was free from 5-8 that night. After immortalizing each other in crayon, Geoff and I decided to ask at an information booth about taking a trolley to the Pier. The woman told us to run over by this hotel to catch a free trolley. Geoff and I beelined, but could not find the right trolley. We ran into this couple that was also looking for the same trolley, and they ended up following us in our search. Finally, we found the correct spot to wait for the free trolley. As we waited, I got a call from Tall Form telling me how things were back home. He informed me that last night, the three of them had in fact pulled over on 94 and slept in the car! Then R didn’t go to her class, so she missed her exam, and I guess dropped the class. That somewhat pissed me off. He reminded me that I needed to stop in Kzoo and give Sean $10 that they borrowed from him. Little did he know I was not planning on stopping.

The trolley arrived, and it was packed. We still managed to get on, and it took us right to the pier as promised. We got off, and first thing we see is another piece of art work. There, placed in a somewhat circle were many giant globes of the world, and each globe looked different. Each were representing the world from a certain point of view. IE political, environmental etc. Each globe was brilliantly crafted and very interesting to read and look at and think about what each earth represented. After our cultural overlook of all the worlds, we inquired how much money it would be to take a boat ride for sight seeing. The cost of the boat ride was too much for Geoff to pay for both of us. We decided simply to scoop out the Navy Pier instead.

Entering the Pier was like entering another world. So much happening, so colorful, it was perfect. They had performances, boat rides, drawing, shopping, eating, everything. Geoff and I window shopped and we found one store that reminded me of the shops in India. When I told Geoff this, he suddenly wanted to go to India with me, and he was serious too.
After shopping, we walked the rest of the Pier. It seemed to go on forever. Geoff saw a sign for a performance of “Cirque Shanghai” He really wanted to go, and got us two tickets for the 2:00 PM performance. As we waited for the show, we sat at the back end of the Pier simply looking out at the water, and watching the boats go by. It was by far the best moment yet. Geoff smiled and was glad because he could tell I was happy and very much enjoying my day. Even though he was just my friend, in that moment, I simply had to put my arm around him, because it was too perfect. After 10 minuets of relaxing on the Pier, we headed to take our seats for Cirque Shanghai. The performance was amazing! Watching these people, some children of only 7 years of age, leap through those hoops and go flying through the air, and do stunts and never miss. It was unreal. There were three acts and each one consisted of different people performing different feats. I started to narc, but I kept trying to keep myself awake. When the show ended, I had seen most off of it, I thought. We got up and stepped outside the performance space. The performers were going meet and greets outside. After watching for a few minuets, Geoff and I decided to leave the area, and head out of the Navy Pier.

We got back on the trolley and it took us back into the city. Next we decided to find somewhere to eat before we hit up the art gallery during free admission hours. We ended up just getting some subway and then deciding that we both were ready to go back home. We skipped the art gallery and walked back to the car. We drove back to my cousins apartment and packed our things. Our journey in the Windy City had ended. Getting home on 94 was horrendous. Traffic was backed up and barely moving. We almost thought we got on the wrong highway, until we called On Star to locate us. Driving back, I responded to a text I had earlier received from Patrick’s friend Kyle asking me if I was going to be at Menjos. I now could say yes to that question. I also realized that it was July 12th, and that meant one thing. Kyle Edward Christy was back in Michigan. Yes, that’s right, My Kyle, My first love, My first crush, My first time, was back in MI for my party on Saturday. I was excited and nervous to see him. During the ride back, Geoff couldn’t wait any longer, and slipped on his new underwear. Also, while he was driving, we managed to switch drivers, so I could drive for a while Geoff relaxed. Three hours later, we made it home. It was 11:00 pm. Geoff came inside, got his stuff, and then headed home. I beelined out the door, and down to Menjos. I said Hi to MA, and then went and found Patrick and Kyle. The night didn’t end in my favor. Drunkin Patrick retold me of how he and Robbi “broke up”, and then tried to “rebound” with MA. Kyle seemed more into making out with Patrick, and later our favorite innocent boy, turned slut, Jesse. Finally I gave up on courting Kyle, and just left. I got home, and finally crashed in my bed. What an amazing birthday I had just had. I owe it to Tall Form, R and Studli Form, and a special thanks to Prof. Form aka Geoff, who was the greatest to me! Thank you all so much for a wonderful trip to the Windy City.
