So long time no update, eh?
As I usually say in these, a lot has happened since my last update. Let us not delve into drama, and we shall just say that I have had some hard times, difficult conversations, a falling out or two, and a realization of who true friends are. I am happy. I won my case in small claims court (as if that would surprise anyone.) I went to Balticon and met some amazing people. I'm happy. I haven't felt this happy in quite a long time. I missed it. And this time, nothing is going to ruin it. I will be most certainly returning to school this fall, and with hope, will be taking classes over the summer, but that is still in the works. I will be adding Paralegal to my studies, my parents think I have a flair for law, and I am interested in law, and if I don't decide to pursue it, then it can only help with my social work career. So theres that. I will probably be going to both Shore Leave and Otakon, so if any of you will be there, please let me know.
I say this alot too, but I've been thinking alot about life. How we spend our time, how we see each other, and how others see us. I was sent a motivational movie once that used the text of the poem "The Dash" By Linda Ellis, and actually thought the poem was applicable, so I'm putting it here, behind a cut.
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end
He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?
so yeah... I've got nothing else.
Until later
