Just spent the day at flugtag at Hyde Park with
fun_monkey and friend. I didn't know what this was until last night when she called me and explained that it was an event where people threw themseles into the lake under the pretense of flying on homemade machines.
It was fantastic.
Each team had to perform a show before they could 'fly'. I pretty much pinned all of my hopes on those who performed than just a random jumping dance. People dressed up as the Doctor and captain Jack doing a coordinated dance with the Tardis and a dalek pretty much had my vote.
Most of the contraptions people had built simply toppled over the edge at the very first moment, and often just before. A couple of memorable moments were had however. One was the one that actually flew 39 metres before the pilot fell into teh water, adn the other was a very tall man riding a wee childrens tricycle over the edge. They showed that clip many times on the big screen, and each time they showed it, I thought to myself, 'this must be getting old' and yet each time I laughed. He just seemed so sad cycling over the edge by himself after the rest of his team had flown over already.
Fantastic!
