Into the Night

I just went and grabbed coffee with an old friend. This ended up being at Waffle House. And I hate their coffee. I was forced to order a double hashbrown with cheese. I love Waffle House more than anything. But that grease really kicks you sometimes.

So we had a guy from Hong Kong over to dinner. He is doing an internship supervised by my mother and he wanted to have an American meal in an American house before he left. Clarence is his name but this is obviously not his birth name. This is his "American" name. My dad asked him for a Hong Kong name. He didn't get the joke.

He took pictures of our whole house, including my moms bathtub. He said my closet is the size of a small clothing store in Hong Kong. He also took a picture of the 45 purses that I have. (Ridiculous, I know. But I guess a paycheck must be spent on something.) He was also amazed by the basement.

It just made me realize how spoiled rotten I am. He thought we were incredibly rich and called my room a "princess palace." (No there are no pink decorations and pretty nets hanging from the ceiling.) I was trying to explain middle class to him but he didn't understand exactly. Everyone in Hong Kong lives in apartments.

Oh well. I need to travel more. And maybe give away a purse.

I surpised him by saying the phrase, "You are stupid" in Chinese. (My phrases are only limited to insults.) He said I had perfect pronunciation. Hahaha. I will have to start calling people stupid more often.
