Didn't want to get up today, but had to. Hafta go to campus to recruit. Wish Grae, Peyton and Liz were here so I could make them do this, but they are still outta town. It sucks, but I'll deal. Hafta have a high turn out this year. Gotta have a lot of pledges

I come out of the campus bookstore with some of the books I'm going to need for my classes. The Astronomy book isn't in yet, which means I'll have to come back next week to get it. The campus is a lot less crazy than it was during orientation, but there still seem to be quite a few students wandering around, and booths for clubs and stuff. I glance idly at them as I make my way back to Mom's car in the parking lot.

Oh my god!! I can't wait to do this. I told everyone they had to show, we're doing it together!! I spot Janice. "Janice! Hey over here!!" I call, excited. "You might be late! C'mon!!"

I groan inwardly. Where the hell had Cecile come from? I drag my feet toward her--it would be rude not to at least say hi.

"Hi, Cecile--uh, late for what?" I ask warily.

"The sorority stuff!! Like I signed all of us up for this one. It's totally the coolest thing ever. See her over there?" I ask, pointing to Brittany. "She heads it! She's SO cool."

I turn and look at the girl she's pointing to. Oh man, could her outfit be any tighter? Wyatt is over there talking to her, and I wouldn't mind saying hi to him again, but I was really hoping it'd be without Cecile being there. I give Cecile a pleading look. "Oh, um, I really was just here to get my books, I don't really have time right now--"

I walk towards the girls pointing at me. Oh god. One of them is so excited it makes me want to puke. I grit my teeth. I have to put the happy face on.

"Hey girls!" I say, semi-excitedly. "Have you all decided which sororities you are gonna pledge?" I look at the less obnoxious looking one first, waiting for an answer.

"Yours of course!" I say, smiling to her. "There isn't a better one, that's for sure!" Oh I'm so excited! She's talking to us!

"I'm not really sure I want to pledge a sorority," I say, although I'm not sure anyone hears me over Cecile's excitement. I shift the bag of books in my arms uncomfortably.

"What? Of course you do! Anyone who's anyone joins a sorority. And you're so perfect for it." I say, wondering if she needs self esteem built up a little. "You're gorgeous and smart and you were popular sorta, so yeah, you're perfect!"

I stare at her. When the hell was I ever popular, I wonder? "But, I'm happy with my roommate and the dorm doesn't look too bad," I say, trying to sound reasonable.

"It's not about that!" I say. "It's about status, and connections..and..." I look to Brittany for help.

[_janice_]

"Oh, Sophie!" I say brightly, moving a little away from the others. "I've been looking everywhere for you!" I make a 'just a minute' gesture at the others and start walking away as though I have something private to discuss with Sophie. "Uh, think if we run we can get to the car before they catch us?"

"Omigod, she wants me to join a sorority with her and the chick in the skin tight suit," I say fearfully. "And Cecile's not really a back down type when you say no thanks."
