Tough topic.
I like how you show that abuse like that will leave a person very skittish.
It will be interesting how you continue to address the illiteracy. I liked the comment about the t-shirt writing, Shannon's last name, and the shampoo. Having tried a study abroad in a non-English speaking country, I can relate to that aspect. Sometimes I wonder if the shampoo will bleach my hair, or tint it... Everyone is illiterate somewhere.
I wonder if Santana will make a sexual move to try and get on her 'good' side in the future, or if it will organically develop...
Shannon's role as mother figure and slave is nicely complex. I like how Shannon's doing her best to correct Brittany's inconsiderate actions (through her own ignorance of what affect they have on Santana) while in Pierce's absence.
I hope Pierce eventually discovers that Brittany likes meat(???) instead of spaghetti over the women in the house getting beaten any day.
