Warm again! Also thrilled with my goat...

Dec 29, 2006 20:09

The power went out in the middle of the night a few days ago. I have an all electric house and after the storm blew everything around and departed, the temp dropped--a lot. So in addition to going through computer withdrawal, I got seriously cold.

Now, I finally got it back after nearly 2 days.

I just got a call from my father*. He got me an emergency heater and I
have to go pick it up.

I never want to be that cold for that long again. I actually began to
acclimate to it and once I had the heat on, it felt very weird indeed.
Just the opposite of last July when we had the record breaking heat and
I started getting chilly at 85 degrees. This time I started feeling too
warm at 60 degrees.

I am blown away at the adaptability of our bodies!

* Daddio spent part of xmas in the hospital but seems okay now.

On to the gifts I received:

1) Complete weather station (more or less) that matches my mom's exactly, so now we will have a whole lot more information to compare and obsess over from roughly 1/10th of a mile away from each other. Should provide us both with endless entertainment and give my father much practice at rolling his eyes.

2) A goat! Through the auspices of http://www.heifer.org/ a goat has been given to a family in need somewhere in the hungry part of the world. It is not for eating and I am very, very happy with this present.

3) Some most excellent chocolate truffles and a huge pan of mouth-watering, home-cooked by a gourmet chef (my old boss), macaroni and cheese. I think I could eat this every day for the rest of my life--for breakfast preferably.

4) Some little electronic thing you use to make movies. I know nothing about this and cannot imagine what I would film. I mean, neither Mr Pat nor the trees move in terribly interesting ways all that often.

So now I have to get my mother a birthday gift. Her eyebrows are growing back so she's in better spirits. I'm thinking perhaps a swarm of bees in honor of all the stinging remarks she's made to me over the years regarding my complete lack of interest in housekeeping etc.

Things are looking up! I can't stop smiling whenever I think of my goat.
