In defense of the THES

Jun 18, 2002 23:37

This is from my site.

Allow me to clarify my recent livejournal entry where I announced that I was SICK OF all of the bands coming out with "THE" names (Strokes, Hives, Vines, etc).
I did not claim that I DIDNT LIKE these bands anymore, nor that I DISLIKED THEM simply because they are getting press/airtime now.
NO. NO FREAKIN WAY.
I am sick of them. That's the truth. It's not because I'm too good to like them now that they're everywhere, it's not because everyone else likes them too, it's simply because I've been listening to their cds for months and months, day after day, hour after hour so much that the initial excitement has worn off. It happens, people. If you listen to the damn Hives cd day in a day out for four months, you're going to get sick of it. Trust me.
And the onslaught of press and radio and mtv and whatnot isn't helping. I'm not DISOWNING THEM or DISCREDITING anyone who likes them. Why the FUCK would I do that? I'm a fan too. IM STILL A FAN. I'm just in another musical mood right now, that's all. I need a break. It's nothing to overanalyze and cry over. Why does anyone care what I think anyone? I'm just some chick. Nothing to get your panties in a twist over.
And what I was ATTEMPTING (hoping?) to say was that now that this style of music is popular and appreciated and WELL LIKED, you know the major labels are searching for 'the next strokes', 'the next hives' and pretty soon it's just going to be a bunch of nontalented bands out there just trying to cash in. It's inevitable.
THIS is my point. Does everyone get it now? I hope so.
For more information/viewpoints, please check out this article about how dreamworks is trying to make loudermilk 'the next strokes'. It sort of adds to my fears about all of these bands.
