The American is mishearing the word "bomb" as "bum." And thinks bum = homeless person who digs through trash.

I personaly loved the comment to the alleged hilarious misunderstanding. I've always wondered what the US would do if the UK took them to court over funding Noraid who often met with IRA people on their travels to Northern ireland.

Damn straight! Although it has to be said that most people who have ever raised this kind of subject with me in the US have no idea who or what NorAid is. Just a small subset...but that's what terrorists are.
