Travel Insurance

hi,

My earlier post explain how ill be in England for 14 days and i was wondering if it was a good idea to get travel insurance?? Any how i looked up at AAA website and with there everything it was $135.00 is that a monthly fee or something??

That depends on what cover you need. I've been told that many US medical plans will cover treatment in other countries; if you've got such a plan then you probably don't need cover for medical care. We're relatively benign when it comes to lawsuits so you can probably survive without liability insurance. Personal possessions and travel-related disasters are the other things normally covered by travel insurance so you need to think how much you'd be out of pocket for uninsured losses for these.

Going the other way (i.e. UK resident travelling to the US), my travel insurance is an annual premium that covers my family for a specified maximum number of days out of the UK including medical costs, liability claims, loss of possessions and compensation for delayed/cancelled flights including full refund of the cost for some causes of cancellation of the entire trip.

You can also buy per-trip insurance but that's usually a bad deal if you're planning more than one trip in a year - I think the per-trip insurance in the UK works out at half the cost of the annual one so the break-even point for annual insurance is quite low.

The US market may be different, but hopefully I've given you a few clues as to what to look for.
