Some big shops still accept magnetic strips, but I don't think any ATMs do. I'm not sure about over the counter services inside banks.

ATMs do take strip cards! I have never had a problem with it.

Really? Card readers in shops have different places to put the card into for chip or strip but ATMs only have one.

With the disclaimer that I do not really understand this, my impression is that chip and pin cards also have a magnetic strip. This is what is actually read in an ATM, not the chip.

Bear in mind that card readers in shops don't swallow the whole card - only either the long side and its magnetic strip whilst swiping, or the short side and the chip. Cash machines eat the whole thing, therefore there's no part of the card they don't have access to.

ATMs definitely still take strip cards. Shops rarely do, and other automated machines don't, but ATMs do.
