I have a flight booked with Delta into the US in November. Last night, they emailed me some information I thought many here would find useful. In theory I suppose every carrier should notify those who already have tickets that are affected, as well as telling those who book in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath that that's happened).

To enhance the security of commercial air travel, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has developed Secure Flight, a program that compares airline passenger information against U.S. government watch lists.

As part of this program, you've had the option in the past to provide your full name, gender and date of birth when booking Delta travel. Now it is a requirement to provide this information as it appears on your non-expired government-issued photo ID for upcoming and any future travel. Effective November 1, 2010, if you do not accurately provide this information prior to 72 hours before your scheduled departure, your reservation may be cancelled.

The Secure Flight process, which is now mandatory for all U.S. airlines and foreign carriers who fly into and out of the U.S., will help prevent watch list misidentifications and expedite your travel experience. You may visit the TSA website for Secure Flight FAQs and more information.

Under Secure Flight, TSA requires airlines to collect and transmit a passenger's name, date of birth and gender as they appear on valid, non-expired government-issued photo ID. Passengers also have the option to provide their redress number during the booking process. The redress number is not a requirement. For more information on the redress process, visit www.dhs.gov/trip.

I thought this was pretty much the deal already, but I guess not. So I wanted to pass this along just in case it helps anyone out there in LJ-world. :-)

ETA the last chunk of the email. I'd thought it just had Delta-specific stuff after the "your reservation may be cancelled" bit, but there was all that other, too. Oops. Clearly I need more caffeine.
