shipping questions and heathrow pet pickup question

Hello all
I had a look through the tags to see some of the shipping advice already on offer. I'm heading to London from NY in a few week's time. I'm hoping to get a fair amount of things with me in my suitcases on the flight, at least the necessities anyway, but I'll need to ship some things over after. I doubt I'll be sending any furniture, most likely it will just be between 3-10 boxes with things like books, pots and pans, clothes I didn't fit in my suitcase, etcetc. From some of the other posts I read, it seems like something like using UPS freight might be a good idea. I had heard that using BA world cargo/unaccompanied baggage might be a good idea, but I don't know much about that. Do they just take it to the airport and you have to pick it up or can it be delivered? Is it a good service?
It doesn't have to arrive right away, but not longer than a month or so would be better really. Though is that expecting a lot? What sort of times are average for shipping things? Would it be quicker using UPS than say a moving company?

Also my other question, I'm bringing my dog with me; we're all sorted in terms of the PETS scheme, she's booked on my flight, etcetc. I'm wondering where exactly do I go when I get to Heathrow to collect her? I assume I have to get myself through passport control and collect my baggage first, but where do I go from there? Do I have to travel far or is it an area in the airport? And does anyone know if it's easy to get assistance in the airport in terms of lugging things around? If I can grab a trolley it shouldn't be too bad, but I'll likely have two suitcases, carryon, then when I collect my dog I'll have a dog and a rather substantial dog crate. I need to get to kings cross area so I'm likely catching the train to paddington then getting a cab. or should i just grab a cab from heathrow, how expensive might that be?

thanks in advance for all the help, sorry for the long list of questions!
cheers
