I'm not absolutely sure how it works if you're on a visa, but if you live in the EU you can go anywhere else in the EU. So if you have a visa to work in an EU country, I'd assume the same rules apply. And you have evidence you're going home, so I'd think you'd be fine. I think it's harder to do it the other way around, like when I go to the US I'll have to prove I'm returning to Canada to go home (I have a BUNAC visa at the moment in Vancouver, and I'm from the UK!).

Have you enjoyed your time there?

Yeah! I've really enjoyed living here. Althought my visa was only valid for 6 months i've had a great experience and definitely want to come back and live one day. Though for Americans it looks like it will be tougher in the future seeing as we don't qualify under the Youth Mobility Scheme yet... but I'm glad that i got the chance to live while BUNAC was still offering visas... thansk for the advice...yeah i'm thinking it should be fine, just scared you know! Hows Canada treating you ?

Whereabouts have you been living? I'm from Scotland and missing it lots - my visa is for a year and I've been here since October, so still got a wee while to go till I see my family again! It's been hard but worth it, as I'm sure you probably agree.

I like Vancouver for sure, but I haven't had much chance to see other places yet. Still working to pay rent and save for travelling! I'm hoping to pop down to Seattle sometime and then see some more of Canada. I actually worked for a summer in America about 2 1/2 years ago, I liked it a lot!

Oh I'm living in London working as a teacher for primary schools. It's great, but so expensive as everyone knows. I wish I chose Scotland to be fair for that reason. I've been up there twice and loved it, esp. Edinburgh....I'm actually applying to do my masters up there( and maybe lucky enough to be accepted). I've never been to Vancouver, I'm from Ohio and haven't really done the whole Canadian west coast thing, even tho I hear its one of the greatest cities in the world. You should really get over to San Francisco if you get a chance, it's by far my favourite US city... along with Seattle of course and Portland. Also, Toronto and Montreal are nice cities, but so far from you. I really hope to come back soon. I miss the UK already and I'm not even gone. :(

Cheers,
Kati

You would be admitted to the EU for up to 90 days on a tourist visa based on your US citizenship and passport. Probably would be a good idea to have proof of round trip transit between the UK and France....train/ferry tickets, Eurostar or plane tix.

I think your UK work visa, passport and ticket back to the USA would allow re-entry into the UK with no problem.

I think so as well. Just can't seem to get a hold of the Home Office here in London, the phone lines are always full. Thanks!

http://www.bunac.org/usa/workInBritain/#entry does mention potential issues with leaving the country temporarily, but doesn't go into detail. (Things are possibly weirder because BUNAC visas don't get issued for US citizens anymore.)

Just as an example of someone having trouble from a couple of years ago: http://community.livejournal.com/bunac/18421.html (Yemminie, at the bottom.) Their BUNAC visa was voided, and they came back in on a tourist visa. Which, if you were about to leave afterwards anyway, wouldn't be the end of the world.

Hey, i too am a US BUNAC student and am having trouble finding a job. Do you have any advice or resource I can have a look at?

Double check with BUNAC.......During orientation, I remember one of the ladies from the BUNAC office saying as long as you leave the country for a minimum one hour you can re-enter however, to do so you must change your status to a visitor. Sounds like you should be fine since you have that ticket home.
