Does anyone know if someone who is registered on the sex offender list in the UK is allowed to travel to the US?
Also...could the US deny the person entry simply because of them being on the list?

Criminals can be barred from entry into the United States.

Pretty sure sex offenders have to register with the police if they're going to be spending more than 24 hours away from their registered address ... not sure they'd be barred from travel, but doubt they'd be let into the US! US customs don't let people with drugs charges...

They're not barred from travel altogether, but they have to seek approval for it. The UK police can prevent them from going wherever if they think it's going to be a problem.

The US can then, of course, apply whatever standards they want.

In that sort of case, it would probably be recommended that the person applies for a visitor visa beforehand, as they would likely be turned away if they just turned up at the border expecting to get in on the Visa Waiver Program. It would be up to an immigration adviser to tell them whether the US were likely to issue them with a visitor visa or not.

Anyone who's been arrested (except for minor traffic offences) is barred from using the VWP anyway.
